Statham was no good as the lead

They need a well-built suave Bond-type guy with a full head of thick hair. Not a bald thug playing a role like this. Statham just doesn't make the cut.

You say it like he's an average overweight slob. I can't imagine Jason Statham getting any more gorgeous.

And what's the obsession with baldness in men? Let me tell you something, nobody worth a damn would care about such superficialities.

It was written with him in mind, so they obviously wanted someone who was rough-around-the-edges as opposed to someone like Jonny Lee Miller or Ewan McGregor.

Both of whom Statham could snap in half.

Not for nothing, but high levels of testosterone can lead to baldness. Most women do not complain.

Considering that his character was initially working for criminals and participating in a kidnapping, going for thuggish rather than suave (although he was smooth at times) was the right choice. His lack of hair had no relevance to the character.
