The Moscow thing is old news. That was from an article the week it opened. This one flopped for the studio so it's the end of the road for the series.

RUSH HOUR 4 COULD HAPPEN!!! Actually, Rush Hour 3 was NOT a flop. Production budget was $140 mil, plus probably $30-40 mil in advertising, making it roughly $180 mil. It made $255 mil at the box office globally, earning the studio about $75 mil. Not as great as R.H.2 obviously, but NOT a flop by any means. Today on Rotten Tomatoes News, a story about Brett Rattner indicates Rush Hour 4 is a "top priority." It's #4 down on this link. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/iron_man/news/1763644/weekly_ketchup_howard_out_cheadle_in_for_iron_man_2_plus_brad_pitts_odyssey_in_space

Big flop. Theaters keep half the money. Chris Tucker and Brett Ratner got a huge percentage of the gross. Chan got a smaller percentage and all Asian rights. New Line spent at least $200m to get less than a third of that back after percentages, advertising and theaters got their cut. Ain't happening.

Because life is just too short for all the stupid people.

reply

Actually the theatres don't keep any of the money. They make their money of off concessions.

reply

Thank you nickle! They do keep a very small percentage, but not anywhere NEAR the amount UnionMan suggests. Not that I'm really rooting for another Rush Hour, but to say R.H.3 was a "Big Flop," is a bit of a stretch. You have to also consider DVD sales/rentals, which wikipedia has listed as $80 mil for R.H.3.

reply

You're misinformed. Theaters aren't candy stores showing pictures for nothing. They get 30% of the first week, and a bigger amount every week. By the end of a run it's up to 70%. After you add up the other costs like prints and ads, taxes etc etc etc the studio gets about half. And Tucker, Ratner and Chan got a big cut of that half AND the DVD sales. When New Line got folded, RH3's flop was one of the reasons they gave.

reply

It depends on the theater. One of the main theaters in the area gets 0-20% depending on what type of ticket it is. Although it does sound like most theaters around here are cheaper than in other areas so it may be voluntary (don't mark up the tickets at all and get more from popcorn/drinks)

reply

if it makes money..why the hell not? if they're making all these successful disney HSM sequel, then there's no stopping a rush hour 4

Lawyer:You sir are a moron
Homer:A Mormon,but I'm from earth!

reply

They didn't make money. The HSM films are humungousely profitable. That's why the sequels. People aren't going to make an even more expensive sequel to a film that maybe will break even in a few years. You've got more chance of seeing Battlefield Earth 2.

Because life is just too short for all the stupid people.

reply

They're already planning on HSM4... Hollywood! Stop making piece of crap sequels! Come up with some fresh, you dumb rish @$$holes!

I seriously doubt they are going to make a Rush Hour 4 as although it was not a flop (Over $100M/$255M world is not a flop), it does appear to be in the red with $140M budget. The back end deals for RH3 seem to make it impossble to be in the black unless it was an incredible domestic and foreign hit.

The biggest problem for RH4 is the budget balloned for the stars both of whom did not show a real keen interest in the movie. They bickered with each other for years why the other would not do to the point people threw $$$$$$$$$ at both for the movie. Some people are trying to get RH4 off the ground but I would highly recommend to avoid doing so. Just remember Bill Murray was right the world did not need another Ghostbusters...

Since HSM is for the tween crowds and reasonable budgets, why not make sequels...However would it not be HSM The Next Generation Of Teen Idols or HSM The College Years. Going to college really went over well for Saved By The Bell.

reply

Yes, it is under pre-production.

It would be good if Rush Hour 4 was about Carter, instead of Lee. What they could do in Rush Hour 4. Lee and Carter take on an L.A. car smuggling ring and the ringleader turns out to be the man who killed Carter's father.

reply

The American setting detracts from the culture clash, that is very subtext of Carter and Lee's relationship. I would put them in a undeveloped village somewhere, so they're both a bit lost.

reply

I thought Chan retired from action films!!

reply

Amazing a Rush Hour 4. I wonder how many are they planning on making.

reply

If 4 is certain, I'm sure it will be the last one. Jackie Chan is getting up there in age. Actually didn't even realize it until now, but he's 60.
