90s movie was better

Especially the Rifftrax version

reply

Yeah it had a bit more structure

I loved the original. Yes, it was cheesy, but it was fun. And, the cast was perfect! No one can do Shang Tsung but Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa.

reply

I put them about equal. The original has a little extra charm because it was the first time we saw this franchise on the big screen. The original’s story also followed the game

reply

at least it had a heart and a coherent plotline. Plus AN ACTUAL FUCKING TOURNAMENT for once.

reply

The original had way better cast. Though I do like the Kano in this one a bit more.

reply

oh yahh.

remember the original opening credits?
MORTALLL KOMBATTT

fucken good times!

reply

I agree. Not only the story but the characters were a lot better. Especially the original Shang Tsung, but also Rayden and Liu Kang. However, I must recognize Sub Zero was pretty good as a glorified villain in this one.

I dont get the appeal to all the video game movie and show adaptations today. The games today are basically interactive movies. Makes no sense. The movies from the 90s actually made sense to adapt because the graphics werent like you were already watching a friggin movie. This movie especially looks exactly like the video games, so whats the point?

reply

That makes no sense, you know what we thought back in the 90's of Mortal Kombat? How realistic it looked! That is what made MK stand out from the competition, it's realistic looking characters they created through video capture and blue screen.

reply

My point being that the games today are already interactive movies.

reply

Yep, you can even watch them as "movies" on various YouTube channels with the gameplay cutout.

It makes plot-less movies like this reboot redundant and unnecessary.

reply

Both had positives and negatives
