Tried to watch it, but couldn't get over how bad visually it was

I've always had curiousity about this movie, and thought that it would be a good one, but when I sat and decided to watch it after getting the DVD, it was really hard ignore how it looked, I hated how much there is CGI envolved in it, and it made it look worse rather than better.

Not to mention the horrible dubbing, it was even more distracting that the visuals, maybe I'll try to watch it again, but it was pretty hard to try to convince myself to sit there in the first 15 minutes.

Why do you want to watch the dubbed version anyway?
All movies are better in its original language.

I agree, I watched this movie for the first time last night and found it hard initially to immerse myself in the anime style. I much prefer to watch anime original versions with subtitles, but in this case I switched to the English dub so I could try and focus more on the visual aspect.

In places it worked really well, the backdrops were often amazing for example, but the cartoon-like character design was at odds with the richly detailed backgrounds and I found the use of CG in places to be quite distracting.

Overall a very enjoyable movie.. A brilliantly realised city with some beautiful art, flashes of genius, wonderfully conceived soundtrack, great story. And while I found the "cinematography" and visual style to be a bit hit and miss, I have to give the filmmakers credit for trying something different.

7/10

I have to disagree. If a dubbing is done well, I prefer the dubbed version. Also, it shouldn't matter if a movie is visually bad, it's the story that matters. Are you going to discredit a good book because it has a bad cover?

reply

That's the dumbest comparison I ever heard. A book cover doesn't play any part whatsoever in the experience as a whole. It's a COVER.

And if you think the only important part of a film is the story, you clearly don't know what you're talking about. Stick to reading.

If you're going to disagree with me, at least find something vaguely intelligent to say.
