Did they beat him up or inject him with something? He was so weak and out of it that it was sad..I always thought they gave him ether or something to knock him out. What do you think?

The guards said they had to shut him up. It could be either one really but he did not look beat up.

I guess if you are a evil henchman of a EVIL antagonist, you have to do evil things else people will start questioning your credentials.
Anyway, my guess is they gave him some kind of drug to calm him down because the way he was acting, drowsy eyes and all, was like he was high, not like he was beaten up.
