Similar films

Hello. I am looking for similar anime, ie. of the wide-eyed variety. I would especially like to see some feature film titles, but t.v. series also acceptable if they are really good. Sci/adventure/thrillers preferable. (And I already know all about Ghibli)

It's probably been said a few too many times, but Ghost in the Shell is a great movie. I'd be surprised if you hadn't heard of it by now, though. I think it's been referred to on every anime page I've seen.

doesn't have big eyes and all but try Jin-Roh. Millennium Actress is also good. not scifi or anything but it shifts between fantasy and reality seemlessly making it quite compelling.

Perfect Blue is also a good one if you like thrillers.

I'm suprised no one said "Akira" or "Vampire Hunter D", while a bit on the violent side both are good.

Actually I was watching Metropolis just then and it indeed reminded me of Akira.

The whole movie is like a blend of Akira meets Metropolis(Fritz Lang's movie)

Vampire Hunter D is good yes. (the original. I thought Bloodlust was a bit of a dissapointment. Eyecandy but lack of substance.)

I don't think it's offending. It's clever. Bill Hicks was a great comedian.

The Animatrix wasn't brilliant, but some of the segments were similiar to this.

Space operation Cobra is a fairly good sci/fi film with a decent sound track by "Yellow", or you could try 3x3 Eyes for a more supernatural feel. Also, Fist of the North Star is worth seeing (not the live action version though, that is bobbins!)

Can't find "Space Operation Cobra" in the database here. I did find a bunch of differen things with "Operation Cobra" in the title, but none of them seem to match the subject matter suggested here...

Is it known by a different title, perhaps?

Whoops! Sorry for the duplicate post here... it seemed to be taking an unusually LONG time for the post to show up, so I thought it had fallen into a bit bucket...

Battle Angel Alita is similar. More gritty and violent, and much better though.
