horrible language dubbing
I saw this movie on American Airlines. Why in God's name won't they just show the original with English subtitles? The dubbing was hideous and distracting.

Yes, it is sad that my countrymen (Americans) are generally too lazy to read subtitles. And as much as I am willing to be a cultural critic of my country, I also have to point out that Americans are not the only ones guilty of dubbing foreign films. While the French are generally good about keeping films in their original language and adding subtitles, Germany and Austria are pretty bad about it. They flock to the latest American blockbuster movie but its dubbed so they don't even get to hear the voice of the Hollywood celebrities who are presumably the reason for going to the movie in the first place.
The Dutch and Swedish, I know from experience, are also good about subtitles and no dubbing.
US citizens are not capable of reading subtitles.
The few who are semi-literate still read too slowly to keep up.
And the words are in proper English, not redneck or ebonics.

This is a great explanation of why dubbed movies are terrible. I'm an American, and I prefer subtitled movies, even over those in English. What can I say? I like to read. :) share
