smoking and drinking...

Okay, so the movie made it clear that the cops bust the kids doing/selling drugs, but what about the alcohol and cigarettes?
I saw virtually every kid smoking and drinking, but they're all only 16 and the cops seem to know about it...is there some special rule for them?

They can get away with the drinking as long as they remain on their parent's property. Any underage person can drink as long as the parent knows about it - but if anything was to happen it is the parent's responsibilty.

reply

lol thats bullsh!t and if you believe it im sorry for you and any poor children you may have it is absolutely against the law for anyone under 21 to drink alcohol the cops were probably just letting it slide or it was fake take your pick

Actually, you're wrong. You can drink on private property if you're under 21 if your legal guardian is cool with it. Many families in the US do it all the time. EX: Italians, Greek, French, German, Irish, Jewish and many other cultures find it ok to share a glass of wine/beer with there children. Step outside your bubble.

reply

no you are wrong it is still illegal no matter if it is on private property or not the law is still the law

Nice one! You even cited it! I love it when ass-clowns like jezus_tapdancing_christ who think they know everything get their asses handed to them with cold hard facts.

Even common sense would have resolved the argument however - considering that every Sunday in America millions of underage Christians drink wine and no one seems to care.

Or, more likely, he simply comes from a state that it is illegal without exception?

Either way, that does not often apply to situations such as those covered in this movie, with large gathering of underage children with no parental supervision(or if supervision exists, certainly not a legal age representitive for each).

Notwithstanding your fascist notions, my siblings and I were allowed small glasses of wine on special occasions when we were growing up.

I'm sorry the Coen brothers don't direct the porn I watch. They're hard to get ahold of, okay?

This is a bit of an old message, but better late than never.

It's amazing how little people know about Law, the legal system, and how these things work.

People in IMDb (and probably in the world) don't seem to grasp the WHYs and HOWs of 'the authority game'.

First of all, be careful with the word "person", because it means a corporate fiction, a dead entity, something that exists only on paper (yes, we have all been duped, but it's our own fault - the information has been available all the time).

Second of all, what forbids someone from drinking or smoking? Does the LAW do that? No, it doesn't. Anyone and everyone can drink and smoke (and even do drugs) as much as they want. Law does not forbid it.

It's the LEGAL SYSTEM that has all these 'acts' and 'statutes' that forbid all kinds of lawful things, create conditions and licenses for lawful activities (you don't need license for lawful activities - and you can't give (be careful also of 'issuance') license for unlawful activities).

You don't need a driver's license to travel by automobile. As long as you don't call it 'driving', and as long as you don't have a 'passenger', but something else, like a 'traveling companion', for example, you do not need a license whatsoever.

Any act or statute that deals with drinking/smoking is of course completely void and invalid when it comes to the Amish, because they have not APPLIED, SUBMITTED or REGISTERED (please learn what these words mean in legalese to know what most people have voluntarily succumbed to! Hint: "Beg", "Submit my will", "Regis = King").

In other words, they have NOT given their consent to being governed by the legal system, the acts/statutes or the government. The government doesn't, and can't lawfully govern the Amish for that reason. It doesn't have their consent!

The question is not why haven't the Amish given their consent to be governed by an insane 'legal system', but the question is: WHY HAVE YOU?

http://yourstrawman.com

Search also for 'Rob Menard' and 'Freeman on the land' from youtube and google, but be noted that Rob is a bit of a pothead, never seems to laugh, and always wears a weird hat.

Also, the website linked above has bad grammar, typos, badly written language and 'american typos' in it, but it contains lots of useful information and links.

So, the Amish are not "getting away" with anything, they simply are not OBLIGED to obey the 'acts' and 'statutes' of the 'legal system'. It's that simple. The cops can't lawfully touch them for that - and technically, for drugs either.

But the Amish probably don't know or comprehend all this, so they can be easily duped - I bet if all facts were presented and if everyone knew all this, there's no way Faron could have been put in jail. But they have more than one trick up their sleeves, all they need is one "yes" for the question "do you understand" or "is your name Faron whatever", and BAM! They got him under their authority, and so on.

There is information about this available, but people rather watch reality-TV, do useless paper-pushing for faceless corporations and booze their brains out, while reproducing like rabbits and doing all kinds of useless crap instead.

Too bad .. the truth is all over the place, but people are voluntarily blind to it.

It's Indiana. You guys ever been to Indiana? Some cops act like the laws are brand new and *beep* It wasn't that big of a deal then. I don't know if it is now. I got out.
Plus, it's the amish. Alot of police may feel they don't have jurisdiction, even thought they fully do.

Quite a few people are also forgetting the fact a undersage teen cannot be arrested for smoking or drinking.

THEY do not recieve punishement. It is those who supplied or allowed it that do.
