I have, several times.

It's nothing special (for LA) - just a club. $10 cover charge (that I
can remember it's been a few years)

Kind of....When I was a young teenager, mid 1960's, one of the things to do was hang outside clubs on Sunset Blvd. Several times I hung outside of "Pandora's Box" on Sunset, later to become The Viper Room. At that time it was painted
purple and pink, very psychedelic. A tiny little place. So I've "mostly" been there.

I was there in late July 2006. Nothing really special. I don't know that it would still be open today if it weren't for the stigma surrounding it with River's death.

I have been there on a number of occasions. I have a buddy who lives in L.A. and every time I go out and visit him we end up going there for a few drinks. Have seen a couple music gigs at the place as well and its a great place to see a band as its not very big and its just jet black on the inside. They have private rooms also which is really nice when you have a group of people and wanna chill out. All in all its a pretty descent joint that I for one enjoy hitting up when I am in L.A.

I lived in Los Angeles between 1998-2002 when I was studying for my Bachelors' degree. In early 1999, more than eight years ago, I visited the area where the Viper Room was in West Hollywood during an outing with my friends. I remember seeing a plaque dedicated to River outside the Viper Room still there 5 yrs after his death on that spot, with a few flowers surrounding it. No aura around it though..just a normal day. I still took a moment of silence for River.

i go every yr twice a yr for his bday and his death ann.

That's really beautiful, movie star gal. River deserves respect like that.

I'd like to go someday, I think...just out of respect, but I live in the midwest...not exactly a quick drive. Heh.

Does anyone even still leave flowers or mementos? It's been a long time...

reply

Christ, is that *beep* still open?

reply

Yeap, before Depp sold his half a couple years ago. I don't think its anything special, but it was known by my crowd to be the place if you wanted drugs. This was post River BTW.

Last I heard, it isn't exactly cutting edge. I'd much rather go to the House of Blues.

Speaking of the Viper Room, I was reading their blog today and the line I highlighted made me sick.

Things you should know about The Viper Room

January 23rd, 2009 by Sarah

If you are under 21 years old, you can’t come in. Bring your ID.

The headliner usually does not play last.

We don’t have blenders.

We don’t have a kitchen = We only serve booze

In front of the Sunset door, by the trash can. Sorry there’s no chalk outline.

Johnny’s not here. But we will accept fan mail.

If you want to work here, email [email protected] (include resume and headshot)

We want everyone to have a fun time, so don’t be a Debbie Downer.

We do not allow cameras in the club, unless it has been pre-approved by the band.

We have the best sound system on the Sunset Strip.

The Pussycat Dolls Lounge is really HOT. We encourage you to come.

I'm an L.A.-based musician, and I've played there many times. Nothing special - just a dingy club - but still one of my favorite places to play in Los Angeles. A small, dark room with 5 booths along one side, a bar along the opposite wall, and a stage the size of a postage stamp in the corner.

I went there in 2001. It was pretty small. Cover was like $20 cuz it was a special event. But I didn't have to pay because I knew the password. The password is: buster. I know it doesn't probably work anymore but the doorman asked me and my friend and we got in.

I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy.

Just went this year...was strange standing in the spot where he died

i went there and used river as the password and got my face smashed

Dropped by there with my buddy when I was visiting him in L.A., and the place is surprisingly small and "divey;" it could pretty much be any other local music venue in any other town. That's not to say it isn't a cool place, though. But if you grew up in that scene -- regardless of where you live -- it's probably going to seem oddly familiar.
