I'd like to know if there's someone reading this msgboard, who could tell me the artist/title of the hip-hop track (in portuguese) that appears in Carandiru somewhere at the middle if i'm not mistaken? I think this was the only hiphop track in the whole movie.

Are there any good Brazilian hip-hop artists similar to the Ugly Ducklings, Delinquent Habits, Arrested Develelopment, Diggable Planets, People Under The Stairs, KRS-One, Mos Def, Cypress Hill?

I don't remember the hip hop track of the movie because I'm not a big fan of hip hop myself, but you should look for tracks of Pavilhão 9, a band that was named after a Carandiru's building.

Other names are Racionais MCs, Planet Hemp and Marcelo D2 (which was the lead vocal of Planet Hemp).

I can't tell you if they are good, but they're sure famous around here in Brazil. At least as famous as Brazilian hip hop artists can be.

Go for the long time dead (as a band) PLANET HEMP musics. It's a twist of hip-hop with rock. It's fast paced, it's heavy, it's really cool. Oh, also look for the "Funk *beep* they are a less known hip-hop-rock band, also vanished from the map, but it's really good funk, try it.

Since the late famous underground rapper Sabotage (RIP) is featured in this movie, I think the song you hear might be by him. I'm getting the DVD shortly and will double check but I gotta a feeling it might be him.
