Just because it's from Brazil and has violence?

If you go into this film expecting City of God, you have already lost
I don't go into Annie expecting Rambo just becuase it's from the US
Use some common sense. Why would a movie about a city in Brazil be compared to a movie in prison?
Do people compare Boyz in the Hood to "The Shawshank redemption"!? HAHAHAHA
it's not only the "brazil thing"
both movies are about violence, drugs, and....both have a lot of time issues (flashbacks), both have LOTS of characters, and you get to know the life of them
i'm not saying that they are similar movies or something like that....but, the have things in common
ps: the extras of city of god dvd, show you the real prison life in brazil...so, here you have another similarity
and...both of them are good movies, city of god better...but 2 great movies
Yeah, they are very similar. The City of God documentary on the DVD showed cells that were almost exactly the same as the ones in Carandiru.
I'm unsure about which was the best. I think maybe Carandiru. They were both amazing though. Two of the best films I've seen all year.

I don't think they're very similar at all, apart from the fact that both are at least fairly violent (I'd say City of God takes the cake in this regard), but Shorty is in both!
And after that, well, the game was mine.
