Bear with me, please...

Okay, the movie is GREAT. I got it via Netflix, and sent it back before watching a 2nd time. What I would like to know:

Why in the world is this movie out of print? Granted, it's well worth the $30 bucks, but Amazon and a few other sites says it is out of print. Is this due to the subject matter? Did the Government there censor this in any way?

What is the name of the Doctor that helped/tested/lended a kind heart and ear to the inmates?

Is there another movie you would reccomend from this director?

I have rarely seen movies this dynamic, from opening scene to the ending. THANKS and my sincere apologies if these were answered on a different thread.

Here in Brazil it's not out of print. So, i can't inform you about that.

The name of the doctor is Drauzio Varella, he's very well known here.

I'm not a big fan of the director, i think Carandiru is his best film. But if you like that kind of film, i recommend you Cidade de Deus, Prisioneiro da Grade de Ferro (a documentary where the prisioners film their routines - you can find on youtube) and Falcão - Meninos do Trafico (documentary on drug dealing - you can find on youtube).

Oh, there's a movie you shouldn't miss from Mr. Babenco. It's called Pixote, it's one of his firsts, and also deals with the prison/gang/crime theme, but this time with teenagers. It's a very good movie and it's available in the US.
