Why hasn't Hammett's Red Harvest been adapted yet


It's a classic that spawned Yojimo, Fistfull of Dollars, Last Man Standing.

Featuring his famouse detective with no name, who also featured in original story this movie was based off of

So, you count 3 movies adapted from it, yet want to know why it hasn't been adapted yet?

well since the "op' has no real Identity its just so much simpler to keep turning out 'spawn' and cite the book as inspiration rather than attempt to adapt it directly

and then worry about uber-fans complaining that "You ruined it" or "why did you change this and not that" and arguably I'm sure you could find exponentially More than just the three you cited... I know Van Damme had a version right when his movies started going the direct to DVD

and if you know your Hammett you'd recall that several Op Stories were modified to become the back bone of the Thin Man Movie sequels
