This is one of Jim Davis's most creative concepts, poetic and surreal

Can't say I remember all of it. The Garden was pretty happy go lucky. Diana and the Piano was Sad. Sam Spade, was that one of them? Definitely over your head for a kid, but creative none-the-less. And that's good for kids. Plus a lot of jokes in regular Garfield comics go over a kid's head, but Jim was really tapping into something else in this one.

Sam Spayed in Babes and Bullets was a completely separate cartoon special, but it WAS Garfield's 3rd life in the book. And I agree, it is good for kids, MUCH better than whatever junk they dish out for a quick buck to show them these days. We need more creators like Jim Davis working in the cartoon world.

I agree, 'Garfield's 9 Lives' was a pretty creative concept.

And I quite liked both the book and the TV series. I would've liked to have seen '9 Lives' re-made into a movie, but Garfield movies don't seem to be a popular venture these days (Given how the 1st film was so harshly criticized, and the sequel just out-and-out tanked...)

I agree with Diana's Piano being sad. I is probably one of the most raw and intimate Garfield stories ever written created. As a child it moved me to tears. I have had cats for many years and the love and commitment that animals give to you and you to them. So it hits hard to a pet owner, espically cats. I wonder if Jim wrote it, and was it about him or a family member 's pet?

Diana's Piano. Saw that part of this speical two days ago and that segment hasn't left my mind. I start bawling just thinking about it.

Do you guys know where I can get this on DVD? Is it even possible?
Edit: NVM, i found the dvd, it's called garfield fantasies.

I would have thought it would have been available under the same name, but different releases sometimes do that.

reply

The Garfield Fantasies DVD has 3 episodes so that's why it's a different name.
