Anybody else think this movie is overrated??

While going through the posts I found that almost all the people here loved the movie and its one of their favourites. I dont have problems with the movie it was a good movie undoubtedly but I certainly dont find anything special in it. I wont give it more than 7/10. Reasons:

(1) The movie starts of well with the focus on the friendship of the 3 friends in the first half but in the second half I found it something else. With Saif and Akshay out of picture, the entire focus was on Amir who was struggling to get the girl and finally succeeds in a typical Bollywood manner, usual cliche.

(2) The movie is meant for Indian youth, seriously? How many percent of the youth of the country does this movie represent? I bet not more than 5%. The three young people who just live in their own realm, enjoying their life, spending the days in chasing the girls (or girls chasing them) and nights in clubs. Only the character of Akshay Khanna looked mature.

I liked it only because of its friendship traits which we all have common among us, as we feel about our friends more or less in the same way as in the movie. That's it. Nuff said.

It surely is overrated. Though it's a nice feel good movie, this should not be rated as high as 8. The first half is really good. But Amir's storyline is where it's messed up. His love story ending is like a fairy tale, which is very common among Indian movies.

This movie is nice but the its damn overrated. The reason is because bollywood movie is pure crap cinema otherwise but this one was something new for them. Aamir Khan is great but not the best in this movie. His storyline is getting strange somewhere in the middle of the movie.

Last seen movies
Billu - 2/10
Dehli 6 - 5/10
Ghajini - 6/10

Bollywood is not the pure cinema crap. I mean people just say the cinema would go down. But not because we have some gud movies that we dont watch. We wil watch bad movies and say this is a crap come on man go watch some gud movies.

I saw this movie in April 2010 for the first time - nearly nine years after it was first released. Was it overrated? Heck, no. If anything, it was ahead of its time. I think this is a benchmark film, if anything. It is the "3 idiots" of nearly a decade ago. While "3 Idiots" inspired India to believe in their inherent abilities, DCH inspired the younger generations to believe in their hearts:
Aamir's was a character that was cynical and self-centered but was transformed by love. Akshay was a mature and sensitive human being who found love in an unconventional way and had the courage to follow it. Saif was all heart who finally realized that the traditional choice made by his parents was the best one for him.

All of this happens a thousand times over, everywhere, everyday....and all of this perfectly OK. That is the message of this film. Its whatever the heart wants.

You have distilled its essence. Very, very well said.

Hardly overrated. It's a benchmark for its time, at least in India. Why compare to Western cinema? Let's not forget that at least 50% of audience watching it wouldn't have watched or would watch Western cinema anyway...
This is a generalisation though.

Plus, it was one of the best films that year. Amongst all those that came out that year, this was one of the best. So it can be considered a benchmark in that respect as well.

Another thing, that it has gathered a cult following over the years, so people will defend it. Like I am. :D

Also, if you think of the awards it won... mostly in acting and maybe here and there in technical or music. Most of the awards that year were swept by Lagaan. Which was a great film, don't get me wrong. But perhaps that's the reason people feel so strongly about this film. It didn't win much even though it so deserved too.

Anyways, I Love It. 10/10.
One of my favourites.
