Rank Seasons

Hi there, as an avid McLeod's fan, I often look for new topics from the message boards and have noticed that no one has done a ranking of the seasons. So here are my thoughts on the seasons going from best to worst:

1. Season 3:This is clearly everyone's favourite as it includes the departure of two beloved characters and the arrival of a fan-favourite as well as some well deserved romance between Claire and Alex, Bridie Carter gives an amazing performance as Tess in this season. 10/10

2. Season 6: My personal favourite as it is one of the most dramatic seasons of the show as it includes the departure of Tess alongside one of the most thrilling mysteries of any season. 10/10

3. Season 1: I bought for a very cheap price and ended up marathoning the entire season within a week as I was enthralled by the chemistry of the actors as they seemed to be really enjoying being a part of the show. The soundtrack is breath-taking here. 10/10

4. Season 5: A little slow at the beginning but picks up about 5 episodes in as the plot becomes more dramatized, the character of Sandra Kinsella gets developed more as we discover more about her character's history. 9/10

5. Season 2: After the excitement of season 1 I was a little disappointed in how this season would end up but after Becky comes to a realisation about Claire's boyfriend and someone leaves, the drama instantly picks up and becomes addicting once again. 9/10

6. Season 7: A lot of fans disapprove of the supernatural theme of this season what with the character of Moira being credited as main cast and the character of Jodi coming to terms with the history of the farm. This is a sad season as a beloved character departs and is introduced with a host of new characters whom we don't get to care for the way we do with the original cast. 9/10

7. Season 4: I put this season down here because I feel as if the writers placed to many unnecessary recurring characters as love interests e.g. Kane because his storyline with Stevie is boring. However there is a silver lining as the character of Kate Manfredi is introduced and fills the void after the departure of a beloved character. 8/10

8. Season 8: the majority of fans would agree that this is the worst season because there is no one left from the original cast apart from a few guest spots. there is a lot of sadness in this season as two characters bid their spouses goodbye. Grab the tissues for episode 4 as a fan-favourite departs in the most poignant, touching way that a main character can. 8/10

As a whole, McLeod's Daughters is a wonderful show filled with intriguing characters and I am wondering how my fellow McLeod's fans would rank the seasons. Please reply as I am eager to get other opinions. :)

Season 1 to 6 are very good. I rate 1,2,3 very highly as Claire and tess were there. together they are the heart and soul of the show. Season 7 and 8 are average.
I think apart from major characters leaving the show, The other three McLeod sisters(Hugh daughters) are just not up to the mark. may be that's the reason the last two seasons aren't fan favorites.

I agree, seasons 1-6 are all equally incredible! There are a few slow points but overall a solid show! Claire and Tess were both well written characters and I was so sad to see them go (individually). I almost stopped watching after season 3 because I thought Claire's departure was the most realistic, heart-wrenching death I ever saw on television. I'm glad I kept at it though, because I began to grow fond of Jodi's character and was pleased with the addition of Kate. Season 4 was a bit slow but when it picked up, it got really good. Then the addition of Regan and Moira made the show feel right again... But then Tess left and from that point on - apart from season 6 - I felt the show go on a downward spiral. I still enjoyed season 7 but not up to the standard of 1-6. Jodi leaving was the final nail in the coffin for me. After she left, I found myself only watching for Regan and Kate. But as they went their separate ways I couldn't help but feel that everything that had kept my interest in the show was gone. I loved Kate's final appearance as it was a really emotional episode. I still watched till the end but I was not dedicated anymore. The finale was still solid and had a season 1-3 vibe for me. With the appearance of Jodi and Meg, I felt like there was something still worth watching. Thank you for your opinion, I'm always looking to see what other fans think of the show haha.

This series has captivated me unlike any other.. Watched season 1 to 6 without skipping.. Season 7,8.. I skipped many unworthy scenes. Really drag last two seasons.but some episodes were really good. The other McLeod's daughters.. I liked Jaz(older). I liked the final episode too.. I wished tess was there too in the end. Sometimes I wonder if actors didn't left the show.. May be it would be still going.

reply

I'd love it if the actors stayed. I do like some of the new characters e.g. Kate and Regan, but are they worth losing Claire? Heck no! I'd love to see a McLeods Daughters with the daughters STILL there haha. I don't think it would last till this day though, but it definetely would make it to season 10 or 12. Claire and Tess made the show, Grace and Marcus etc. Destroyed the show for me. Well, destroy is a strong word but it definetely was no longer the McLeods Daughters I know and love. All the characters eventually became one-dimensional versions of the original characters and I hated that. Even the storylines became similar.

reply

Claire leaving the show was the real setback and intially I thought it wouldn't be that interesting after that but somehow I didn't miss her when Stevie came to rescue drovers. And in fact she is one of the fans favorite characters.the writers have to change the whole storyline when a main actor decides to leave the show. Claire's death looked so forced.. Similar thing happened with jodi.. And with Alex it was literally hillarious ending.for me he left the show in season 7.

reply

I know... Claire's death was so random and absurd, but I still thought the actors' performances were outstanding throughout the entire episode. Jodi's death just bordered on soap-opera and then Alex gets whacked by a tree... It seems laughable but I will always love McLeods Daughters regardless of how ridiculous it got haha. I think Stevie breathed a new life into the series as she is one of my favourite characters. I love how much she cared for Tess in the aftermath of Claire's departure. Although season 4 started off rocky, it was still an overall solid season.

reply

many people regard s1-3 best but its season 4 that received highest viewership in Australia.season 7 and 8 aren't that bad.its just that when you compare them from earlier seasons they are just not interesting. actually i don't remember any other series in which main character decides to leave the show when it was doing so well.i somehow cant understand why Lisa Chappel left the show at that point...because when it was good it was very very good.

reply

I find season 7 really entertaining, even the beginning of season 8. But after Kate left I jst couldn't enjoy it as much as I used to. And I think it's weird that Lisa left too, but I think it's because she wanted to start a music career. I watched a horror movie lady year that had her as the main character. It's called "coffin rock" I think? You should check it out if you haven't already haha.

reply

Did she make a successful music career. You are Australian. I guess you should know. Anyways the main leads of this show didn't make international success. Although since this is my favorite show I wil be looking forward to watch some more tv, movies of them. You can suggest some of the TV shows to me. I also noticed that some of the guest stars of this series were familiar faces to me and it was pleasure to see them eg. Alycia debnam, Rachel Taylor, Anna tovv. They did make international success.

reply

Unfortunately no, she recorded one album but it flopped. And yeah, I noticed a couple familiar faces along the way too. Especially Anna Torv (if that's how you say it). And I'd be happy to give a couple of recommendations. If you like Jodi, she's been in a horror movie called "Triangle" as well as a couple of American television shows like "The glades" but I can't remember the other one. If you like Kate, there's a really good light-hearted drama called "winners and losers". She plays the villain in the first two seasons but she plays it well. I really recommend that. Unfortunately I don't know what Tess or Claire have been in. I know Stevie used to be on "Baywatch" though haha.

reply

ohh..torv was a typo.my mistake

reply

tess is in currently running 800 words.

reply

I don't blame you for having that opinion. But I still think 4-6 are worth a watch. But I agree with your ranking. Season 2 wasn't that good compared to seasons 1 and 3. Thank you for giving your opinion :)

reply

Yeah agree.. How can you miss nick and tess pulsating chemistry of season 4. Really someone stopped after season 3.. Unbelievable.

reply

I liked Nick and Tess together but I didn't think they were enough to keep me watching when there are so many other series I want to see (unlike Brick and Becky and Alex and Claire, my two favorite couples).

reply

Didn't you like Stevie.. I thought she had a very good fan base.

reply

"Didn't you like Stevie.. I thought she had a very good fan base."

I didn't warm to Stevie but maybe I didn't give her enough of a chance. After the departures of Becky and Claire (two of my favorites), she seemed awkward and out of place.

I hope I'm explaining it alright. I couldn't think of a better way to put it.

You should! I don't think you'll regret it. I watched seasons 4-6 because of Tess and I clearly enjoyed them haha! I agree that you shouldn't waste your time with season 7 or 8 unless you really like Jodi and Stevie. Let us know what you think of them if you decide to watch! :D

reply

[deleted]

Trust me, neither could I haha. But Jodi might surprise you by how likeable she becomes.

reply

I have also only seen the first three seasons. I only planned to watch those because the last episode didn't seem to be the same show anymore. I may watch more of the show but for now there are other shows that I want to watch.

I agree with previous comments that season two was the weakest of the first three seasons but it does pick up midway through. I really liked the last few episodes.

I'm torn between season one and three for the best. I really like season one because it was what got me into the show. I liked the development of Claire and Tess's relationship and, I hope this doesn't sound bad, I liked Becky's rape storyline.

My favorite thing about season three was Claire and Alex's relationship. I loved those two together. However I really missed Brick, one of my favorite parts of the previous seasons.

reply

We have basically the same opinion haha. I feel that the season 3 finale was a different show too. But I do suggest giving a chance. I never revisited the show for an entire year before giving season 4 a try, and I'm glad I did. I agree that season two picks up amazingly halfway through, especially when Claire finds out the truth of her boyfriend. And I also liked Beckys storyline, I was so relieved when she finally got rid of that man. The storyline was so tense.

reply

Yeah.. I also rate season 1 of any series highest because that's where we start the storyline.. Meet characters first time. I think imdb should add new feature to actually rate different seasons wholly.

reply

That's a brilliant idea haha. And I hold season one close to my heart. So many great scenes, I love the poignancy of old McLeod's. And the soundtrack is so touching. I think Rebecca Lavelle has an amazing voice. One thing I really like about early McLeods is the character development of Jodi. She was really annoying to me in the beginning, but she matured so much and became my favourite character by the end.

reply

Specially that slow piano playing on emotional scene. I absolutely love it.

reply

So do I haha. It gets me everytime.
