Just got done watching Cradle Of Fear. I think I have to agree with what Dani said about it in an interview. It was meant to be a B-grade horror flick and it succeeds at that.
It was entertaining enough to keep my attention for the full legnth of the movie, which is a lot more than I can say about a lot of "better" high budget movies out there.
The chicks were mostly hot, the nudity wasn't TOO overdone, and the stories were...well good enough. I can't say it's one of my all time favorites, but I'm sure I'll watch it again in a year or two.
Haven't seen Visitor Q. I'll put it on my Netflix list. I've been on a horror kick lately and I've been trying to find some really disturbing stuff.
I TRIED watching "120 Days of Sodom" since it was somewhat referenced in COF's Babylon AD video but I only got about halfway through it. I wouldn't even call it horror.
Yeah, definitely Visitor Q. Not a horror film as much as a VERY dysfunctional family type movie. (I know it is meant to be disturbing, but I laugh my ass off every time I see that)
I've seen Salo twice. Alot of sick dialogue. Not a horror film I agree, more like the director making some kind of social commentary about something that happened in history. I thought it was really sick, but upon hearing how brilliant it was to some people, decided to watch it a second time. It didn't affect me any differently. Seemed like a gratuitous torture flick.
The August Underground series are a torture horror film trio, that is supposed to be disturbing. I didn't find them disturbing, but rather annoying, as the people acting were screaming and laughing and couldn't keep straight faces the entire time.
Guinea Pig 2 (Flowers of Flesh and Blood) and 3 (Mermaid in a Manhole) were both good in my opinion.
I'm a HUGE fan of Murder Set Pieces and Subconscious Cruelty. And even Slaughtered Vomit Dolls. I'd recommend any of those (SVD only if you have a strong stomach)
I think the most disturbing film I've watched was Men Behind the Sun. More of a history lesson about the atrocities done to the Chinese by the Japanese, during WWII. The torture in that is unforgettable and haunts me to this day. What threw it over the top was the poor cat that was fed to hundreds of starving rats. My research led me to an interview with the director that confirmed that it indeed was real. Makes me sick just thinking about it...
Netflix has both Guinea Pig movies, Murder Set Pieces (don't know if they have the unrated or rated version though), Visitor Q, and Men Behind the Sun. I don't really recommend Men Behind the Sun. It was too much for me.
OH YEAH! Netflix has The Untold Story. If you haven't seen that, definitely check that one out! Brilliant!!
Cool, Visitor Q will be here tomorrow. I saw Mermaid In A Manhole a few years ago, that was just REALLY frikkin weird. I sat there the whole time thinking "what the fuuuuu?" I don't even remember how I came across it.
It's weird that you said what bothered you the most about Men Behind The Sun was that they fed a cat to a bunch of rats. Reminds me of that scene from Willard. I posted something not long ago about how I think it's so strange that animal deaths in movies get so much more of an emotional response than human deaths (and I'm talking about movies where the animal deaths are fake).
It's not violent or gory, but one of my favorite "WTF" movies has got to be Eraserhead. That was just 100% weirdness. Another of my favorites is "A Clockwork Orange". I tried to watch "Event Horizon" with some friends a few weeks ago but one girl got freaked out and we ended up watching "Lucy Daughter Of The Devil" instead.
Yeah, fake animal deaths in films make me more emotional then human deaths.
But that MBTS bit should have been outlawed. (It was made at an earlier time in another country) It is actually an excellent film, though very disturbing. But the cat scene was completely uncalled for. Real animal deaths to make a film is what bothers me a whole lot. In that one, they also burned those hundreds of rats alive.
Same way with the earlier cannibal movies. I really do like Cannibal Holocaust, but hate that they killed animals in the jungle to make it.
Ohhhh...Eraserhead. Good one! I saw that months ago and it was all kinds of f'kd up! A Clockwork Orange is classic, and Event Horizon was pretty good for modern horror.
Did you see the original Funny Games? They just remade it, and was released here today. The original was pretty good, and this remake (I'm usually highly opposed to remakes) seems promising. Since it was the same director doing it.
Another f'kd up non-horror film is Tetsuo: The Iron Man Complete head trip of a movie!
I hadn't heard of Shin Chan before. Funny sh!t! "Did you take the one pleasure Mommy has that doesn't involes a detachable shower head??"
I just got done watching Visitor Q. Holy perversion, Batgirl!!!
I don't know what to say... this family makes the Osbournes look Amish! The word 'brilliance' doesn't even start to describe this movie.
I don't see how anyone can combine incest, premature ejaculation, hitting people over the head with rocks, family torture, heroin addiction, fireworks, bullying, prostitution, lactation, a great family meal, voyeurism, rape, corpse sex, rigor mortis, lubrication, dissection, and family bonding (in that order) and still manage to make it a comedy.
Thank you so much for recommending this. I wish I had something to offer in return. The only thing that comes to mind is "Tromeo and Juliet" - yes I spelled that correctly. Netflix has it, and I think you'll like it.
I KNOW! I laughed my way through the entire thing!! And that kid beating his mother to a pulp because she didn't buy the right toothbrush, or cut the commercials out of his recorded programs!!!
I have Tromeo and Juliet...nice Troma nonsense there! It's been awhile (like years) since I've seen it though. I remember a fight with tampons near the end
Terror Firmer...I still need to check that one out! Thanx...I'll see if Netflix has it and put it in my queue... "cereal killer"
Have you seen "Hard Candy"? I'm supposed to be getting that one today. I'm laying off the movies a little bit this week because I'm looking for a new job and all the interviewing, testing, paperwork, and phone calls have got me worn out.
I thought it was pretty good, but not anything like the movies we've been discussing. There's no gore, not much blood, it's just really creepy.
The story gets going quickly (I like that) and it doesn't take long to get VERY intense. I saw it as more of a mind-fk movie than anything else.
Two warnings - be careful if you go to the IMDB page for this (I'm glad I didn't). There are a LOT of spoilers in the thread titles that could ruin the story. Second, if you watch this with your husband, there's a good chance he'll find it scarier than you will.
Oh yeah, if you're ever in the mood for a good dirty comedy, check out "Lucky Louie". It was on HBO a while back (sux that there was only one season).
I'm going to have to add that movie to my queue. I'm staying away from the message boards. I suppose from the word of warning, there must be a "Serpent in the Rainbow" type scene in there...
That Lucky Louie looks great! "You just pissed your pants?????? SURE!!!!"
Jeez - I was starting to think I'd pizzed you off or something. Yeah, there's a scene in Hard Candy that's something along the lines of the scene from "Serpent and the Rainbow".
I was sick as hell this weekend so I haven't watched anything new. The next three movies in my queue are "Angst", Mad Cowgirl, and Ebola Syndrome.
I also bought one, "Chinese Torture Chamber Story 2". I couldn't get it on Netflix, but a place called HKFLIX.com had it for less than $10 with shipping.
No...I was just really busy. Between a deporable head and chest cold, the hellhole, and getting behind in alot of the household nonsense, I've not been on the computer much. Just a comment every now and then when at work, but no time there to write much of anything.
I've not heard of Angst and Mad Cowgirl, but you should love Ebola Syndrome. Have you rented The Untold Story yet? Definitely the best movie of it's kind. Netflix has that one.
Chinese Torture Chamber Story 2....sounds awesome!
I've been on an old 70's 80's animal horror kick. I have Night of the Lepus here from Netflix. (giant man-eating rabbits) I have Day of the Animals in my queue, and Devil Dog: Hound from Hell.
Okay, got a question for you. You recommended Murder Set Pieces a while back, but you specifically said to see the unrated version. Netflix only has the R rated one right now. Should I bother to put it in the queue or wait until I can get my hands on the real version? I read somewhere that there's only about 6 minutes cut for the R rated one.
Killer rabbits? Last time I saw anything like that was when I was watching Monty Python's The Holy Grail. Good stuff.
Both The Untold Story and Murder Set Pieces are worth buying, if you can't find a place to rent them. I'm not sure about the MSP rated version, because I haven't seen it to know what they cut out. I got mine from the Toetag pictures website (I think)
Yeah, BS I agree. They probably only had a couple of copies and they either got broken or stolen. I've seen that happen with Netflix before. Crappy thing is when it happened before, they didn't replace the movies.
This was overall a bad movie weekend. First I tried to watch "Spatter: Naked Blood". It was so boring and horrible I shut it off about halfway through.
Second was that one I bought from HKFLIX. "Chinese Torture Chamber". Still not very good, but at least I made it all the way through. The torture scenes were good, but they were few and far between.
I managed to ....obtain.... a copy of "The Untold Story". I'll try to watch it this week if I get a chance. Well, time to go to work. Have a good weekend?
I don't see how anyone can combine incest, premature ejaculation, hitting people over the head with rocks, family torture, heroin addiction, fireworks, bullying, prostitution, lactation, a great family meal, voyeurism, rape, corpse sex, rigor mortis, lubrication, dissection, and family bonding (in that order) and still manage to make it a comedy.
That quote is f'king epic!
Talk about doing a 360 I'm messing around here bored on my lunch break at work.
Cept one thing different now though, John, I love you so gawd damned much. reply share
