Why did this show get Cancelled?

Hiya Everyone! I just wanted to say that I am really disappointed that Time Squad was cancelled. It was one of the best cartoons ever! I for one, loved it,(and strangely enough, I did get an A in history that year....not that I used this show to study, mind you.) It should really be released on Dvd, or at least be given a second chance to air. Who's with me?

Yeah, Time Squad was a really great, funny cartoon (not to mention educational) that never really caught on. I'd love to see a DVD release of what little there is.

reply

Woot! Another fan! ^_^ Yeah, there weren't too many episodes, but probably enough for a Dvd. It's too bad this got cancelled, because some of the new stuff that started to air near this downfall were awful! Most cartoons nowadays are really terrible, and look really cheap. The episodes usually make no sense.

Not everything is bad though, some of the classics still dominate the channels.

It apparently got cancelled because one of its episodes (aired once, never aired again), depicted one of the Bush presidents (not sure if it was george senior or junior) as being obsessed with twine. I haven't seen it, but it doesn't sound all that offensive to me.

reply

Haha, yeah, I'd gladly buy the dvd box sets. And that can't be the reason it got cancelled, because there have been jabs like that all over tv, and in the media. But the rest of those shows are up and running.

i dont know why this show was cancelled but whatever the reason is im upset about it. i really liked the show and would watch it whenever i could. although im not sure if i had ever actually watched the show while it was showing new episodes it still was all new to me. however even the episodes i had seen already were still fun to watch. id really like to see the show put back on the air or atleast dvds released of it. i dont even know why the reruns where taken off the air. i should have taped them when they were on.

yes the show was a cartoon and mainly for kids but it was still a good show. some of the humor might not be understood by the younger audience but i still got it. even if children get the jokes they are still funny enough and smart enough for an adult to appreciate.

whoever has the power to put the show back on the air, please do!

reply

Actually, it's back on the air. They gave it this Friday at 4:30/5:30am. Technically, it would be considered Saturday morning.... but to Cartoon Network, it's still considered Friday. Hunh...

Anyways, they gave the first two episodes.

Shame the shows cancelled, I would have loved to see them meet bram stoker and see that he's a big fat slob so they try to make him into a classy novelist and write his biggest masterpeice...."Dracula".

I love it even more now that I know that Carlos was involved, as a die-hard Reno fan...

I love this show and loved it even more when I learned that Mark Hamil [who played Luke Skywalker in STAR WARS (1977), THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (1980), and RETURN OF THE JEDI (1983)] voiced Larry 3000 in the series! I'm a die heart STAR WARS fan and am also a fan of any actor and almsot any crewmember that took part in the history-making movie saga! I also watch Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go! (2004-????) on Toon Disney that has Mr. Hamil as the evil Skeleton King! But that's another message for another board. Sadly, as far as I have seen, Time Squad (2001) no longer comes on at 5:30 AM on Saturday mornings but I could be mistaken. If anyone that lives in the U.S. sees it, could you please post what time it comes on here on this message board? Thanks. Anyhoo! I still love the show!

Someone should rip it and put it on the net. :-)

Great show... I agree. It was hilarious and so badly portrayed history and I'm really good at history at school and know alot about it so it was reallly funny. It should be on DVD. Thanks for telling me about those episodes shown on "FRIDAY".
It was one of those rare treats of a show that canceled way to soon.

Hey, really random, but does anyone know if a petition has been started to save the show? Because that would be really really cool if it did.

Funny you should say that. I found someone on YouTube who has every episode posted on the site. Here's the address: http://uk.youtube.com/user/TimexSquad

As for why this show was cancelled: From what I've heard, Dave Wasson (the guy who created the show, wrote a lot of the episodes, and did vocal effects for some episodes) had a falling out with his crew and they broke up, which is why the show got cancelled, and Cartoon Network doesn't even air the episodes at 5:00 am (not 5:30; 5:30 was where they aired Captain Planet) because they extended Adult Swim's programming block.

On the bright side, I have all (or almost all, I haven't checked) of the episodes taped on video and am considering making a complete DVD set for myself (at least until the day an official DVD release is announced, complete with commentary, deleted scenes, and maybe a documentary on how the show was created).

A good reason to actually do some research first. I appreciate the explanation to 'Time Squad's demise. In the absence of one I would have offered that it was discovered that 'Time Squad' was ripping-off 'Voyagers!' (1982-1983) and that it had to cease airing to prevent legal action. My assumption is wrong of course, but the similarities are undeniable.

League of time travelers (provided as backstory)- check
Orphan boy (the kid's parents recently died in an accident)- check
Historical events (strangely) not happening as they were recorded and thus require "fixing/mending"- check

Sounds pretty familiar to me. I was around 5 or 6 at the time that aired, but sadly I didn't get to see much of it cause my parents controlled the remote. If I hadn't been looking someone up on IMDB I would never have stumbled upon it. (I love this site.)

Anyway...I miss 'Time Squad' too. Great voice acting, funny stories and a little history lesson here and there. What's not to like? It was taken from us way too soon.
