Amelie vs He loves me, He loves me not

So which do you think is better? I think they are both fantastic films and have similar qualities in some ways....
But if you HAD to chose one, which would you say is better?

reply

I love them both, but between the two, Amelie is head and shoulders above He loves Me, He loves Me Not.

reply

It's hard to compare them because they're so different - two polar opposite characters. Except maybe for the strangeness factor that both characters have. I'd still have to say Amelie. It's just such a beautifully made film.

reply

erm they're both excellent but he loves me he loves me not just has that something extra!!!!

i LOVE it!

reply

i like amelie better but he love me, he loves me not is also a great film

reply

my vote goes to "amelie" too. but that doesn't mean that "a la folie... pas du tout" isn't a great movie.

Well, He Loves Me... He Loves Me Not is a fantastic film, but Amelie's cinematography and originality put it just a notch above it.

So: Amelie.

I don't think Amelie and Angelique are polar oposites.
Both are obsessed with a guy and proceed to stalk him, it's just that one is nuts and one is not.

I'm close to experiencing erotomania with Audrey Tautou myself...but seriously the character of Amelie is close to my dream girl and Angelique reminds me of a nightmare ex-girlfriend. Amelie is the better movie overall, but Audrey is excellent in both. I also suggest "A Very Long Engagement" and "Dirty Pretty Things" if you haven't seen them. I have also seen "God is Great and I'm Not" which is another fine acting job by Ms. Tautou.

I agree that they're very different. Amelie is well written, well acted, and well shot, while this thing has shambolic writing, average acting, and average cinematography. There are similarities, like the "strangeness factor that both characters have," the musical style, and shots from mopeds, but most of this is just evidence of HLMHLMN ripping off Amelie.

I realize I came on a little strongly there. This isn't a terrible movie and there are a lot of things that I don't like about Amelie, but they're not in the same league.

Very hard to chose, at themoment maybe this one since i already own amelie and have to rent this movie

It seemed to me that someone must have watched Amelie and said "let's remake that movie but make Audrey Tautou's Character EEEEVVIILLLL!!"

Now I'm worried that if I watch Amelie again, I won't like it as much, because I'll be expecting Amelie to do someone in...

reply

Certainly 'Amelie' but only because the comparison is kind of futile. It is such a superior film.

Having said that, I must admit I'm very fond of 'À la folie... pas du tout' as well. Very fantastic-

Second hand impressions..

"He loves me..." is a good movie, but not a great one. Although Tautou plays the lead well, the script is lacking a little, and perhaps the youth and inexperience of the director result in a slightly unsatisfying film.

Amelie, on the other hand, is a modern classic. I don't think I can really add much else to what has already been said about this movie. The two are not comparable, I think there must be better movies in Audrey Tautou's canon of work worthy of comparison to Amelie.

He Loves Me...He Loves Me Not is no doubt fantastic, but Amélie is perfection. It's no contest.
