was bored today so broke out the megadrive for some retro fun. however, i am stuck on level four, u know the bit where tales has to jump on that thing and sonic get under it? i remember getting stuck on it years (like hundreds of) ago. anybody got any tips as to how to get past? would be greatly appreciated.

That barrel has gotten hundreds of players stuck on it for months. I hate that damn barrel.
Anywho, to get past that part, all you have to do, is stand on the barrel, and hit "Up" and "Down" on the D-Pad until you go low enough to jump out into the area below.

In fact, about 2 days ago I bought the "Sonic Mega Collection" game for my Gamecube, and when playing Sonic 3, the first thing I thought was "I can't believe I got stuck on this damn thing for over 5 months."
So, you're definatley not alone in the fact that "SBoET" got ya stuck.

hey ive got another question, i cant figure out how to beat the (i assume) final robotnick when he comes at you with the big hands. i keep restarting but i only get a few tries since it is savved there so i am reluctant te keep trying when i can;t figure out how to get a single hit on him. thanks

Wait till he's coming from the side to scoop you up (He'll come from the side he last flew offscreen on, so you can easily anticipate him) and then jump into his "face", the space on his front between his hands and his spikey hairdo. He'll shake, then shoot upwards without grabbing you. Just dodge until he repeats the move. If you get hit, be sure to keep grabbing at least one ring.
This worked for me, the only difficulty is targeting his face correctly.
Hope this helps, and damn the drum of doom! (I always thought you had to jump to get it to move, which works a bit, but takes ages!)

I have Sonic 3 & Knuckles for the PC and I got stuck on that part for months. I sitll can't. Thanks for your help eveybody! :D
shareARghhh, man that bit had EVERYONE stuck for ages. You really would waste so many minutes on that bit, and the act is quite long as it is. It's quite easy now though, now i know how to do it lol. Fact that they gave you no clue on what to do :@

yeah...through out the entire level, i'd never realized that you could hit up and down to move those "SBoET" until about two days ago, when I pulled the genesis back out. The only reason i discovered this much easier way to move past the barrel, is because the button that i use for jump most often was going out, but the barrel still went up as if out of a sling shot.
At this point, i wanted to laugh, cry, and beat my self in the head. It was a rush of emotion to have finally conquered the barrel after getting stuck many many times in the carnival.
On Sonic 3 & Knuckles, how do I beat the boss of Marble Garden Zone, act 2? Wait, let me rephrase that. How do I beat him if I'm playing as Tails? I can't exactly drop out of flying to hit him...
shareWhen fighting the Marble Garden Act 2 boss as Tails, you have to fly into him with your tails. This can also be done when playing with either Sonic and Tails together, or Sonic alone because you're controlling Tails during the fight no matter what.
