Nostalgia

Ahh.. even though I played all the Megadrive games as a kid, this is the one that brings back all the memories... Me playing as Sonic, my sis as Tails, whooshing through the Chemical Plant Zone, then bickering because I would end up leaving her behind.

Any other old-timers around? By 'old timers' I mean gamers who played the games when they first came out. Do you get that sense of lovely warm nostalgia as you reminisce?

I remember eagerly awaiting Sonic 3 and S&K, and also pining away for a 32X to play Chaotix. Incidentally, that was the only game I never got to play... Hmm. Another Mega-collection is in order, I think.

Hell yes. Some of my best childhood memories involve this game. I used to do the same thing with me as Sonic and my brother as Tails, who was always hilariously immortal. I'd love to zoom by and leave Tails behind in really platform-heavy levels just so I could hear his death cry (that high-pitched noise that is most likely unspellable). Sounds kind of sadistic now that I think about it, but it was really funny when I was little.

Ahhh.. this game *WAS* my childhood (along with Sonic 1, of course)... haha I used to do that too, in the Metropolis zone, with those big screws... my friend would control Tails and I would control Sonic. We hated Tails (dunno why) so he would position Tails underneath one of those giant screws that you used to run on to get up... and then I (as Sonic) would run so it went down and crushed him, ahehehe.

It's the end of the post as we know it, and I feel fine.

I remember when this game came out, I was lucky enough to pick it up in all it's clamshell boxed glory. Running through the levels to intentionally kill Tails became a pasttime, not because I hated him. I just hated his inability to grab rings in the Bonus Level, forcing me to play through nine billion times to attain Super Sonic [which was also a great surprise].

For some reason, I always associate this game with the weird and random commercials that aired just before and after it came out. Like the post-launch one where for some reason when people stuck their head to the ground they'd hear the narrator talking about the game using cliche 90's words like "Fresh" and "Popping" and boasting about the new Blast Processing. Someone nearly gets hit with a lawnmower in this thing.

Or the weird INFOMERCIAL one when SEGA decided to package the Genesis with SONIC 1 and SONIC 2. Wherein it's revealed it can clean up stubborn stains, chop, slice, dice, is capable of making chili and fries. Covers up stubborn bald spots no problem, and yes, even played. Pet's love it too and it also fits into a tacklebox. Made of a space age polymer plastic for years of family fun... Weiner dog sweater sold seperately. View it for a laugh:

Speaking of that, SEGA always did have really weird ads back in the early 90's. What was up with that? An evil voice would talk as horrible things would happen to people just prior to a games release [like the SONIC 2 one where the kid gets electricuted and basically seems to seizure in the background as the box is show with the release date] and so on. But Japan's SEGA had a different twist, though not SONIC 2 persay, it's still hilarious. Ever seen this 90's gem? The Japanese SEGA Sonic the Hedgehog 1 TV commercial?:

Why is he dancing on the car? What's up with the fireworks? Who knows... But as the creepy Japanese singers say 'SONIC THE HEDGEHOG!"
