True, Sonic's music is better in composition, but keep in mind that video game technology had made improvements between the 80s and early 90s. Koji Kondo, the composer for Mario and Zelda, was limited to four pieces of music programming machinery. He had 2 monophonic pulse channels, a monophonic wave channel(a bass), and a noise channnel(percussion). Masato Nakamura, the composer for Sonic, definitely had more equipment. Imo, I think they both made really cool music, and all video game music should be appreciated in different ways, especially if they were composed at different points in the evolution of video games.
