Absolutely awful, I'm not sure if Focus features is an indepedent company or not, but if it is the times are ineded disturbing. Why does Hollywood have to rip of Asian film and anime and video game for movie ideas? Don't bother answering because it was a rhetorical question. LACK OF ORINGINALITY. For the love of whatever God you pray to; take a massive dump on re-makes!
The problem is most likely that whenever someone comes along with something original, it usually doesn't get turned into a movie because no one wants to finance something that isn't already proven to make money. Money is the number one factor that determines if something gets made or discarded. Even successful tv shows with loyal fanbases can get canceled if the advertising during commercials proves unsuccessful and the advertisers pull out.
Personally I wouldn't call the Pet shop of Horrors movie a remake because this is the first time a movie of it has been made. The anime was only four episodes long whilst the original manga is 10 books long, so really this is more of a movie based on a book, which is perfectly normal. I both fear and wait eagerly to see how the movie turns out. If they follow the spirit of the books I will be thrilled, especially if they keep the love-hate relationship between the hero and the antagonist. I also worry that they will simply take the premise and turn the movie into typical Hollywood horror-fare. Only time will tell how they decide to treat the story.
Agreed. If they respect the source material it'll be great but given Hollywood's track record, who know's what will happen. I'm hoping that the fact that the series is set in LA will prevent too many changes by rendering them unnessesary but I'll just have to wait and see how everything pans out.
A promising element is the fact that Rogue industries is a low-budget division. I'm hoping this means more emphasis on story and characters, and less on special effects and big name stars (and all the preconceived opinions that viewers will bring into the show because of them.)
WOO-HOO! Bizzare thing, just before I got on the computer just now, I was thinking how great a Pet Shop of Horrors movie would be. I hope it keeps the environmental messages from the manga.
i think the movie would turn out great if they actually kept to the spirit of the series. pet shop of horrors is a great series but it doesnt get enough love because its so unknown.
if they make a movie out of this series and do it right then it could be really good and bring in more fans.
