Indeed, he's THE Susumu of all Susumus!
His lyrics are surrealistic and he speaks through images (and of course, sound!). The guy is really something else, every bit of his music is an experience.
Plus, I heard the film was actually based on his music. Satoshi had always been a big fan of Hirasawa and he asked him to compose the music that would inspire the story of Millennium Actress. That's why there are references in the film from Hirasawa's work, like the Lotus.
I think Hirasawa's music is very cinematic and could be effectively used in live-action films too.
