I know that the actresses are actually quite old but does anyone know who old the characters are supposed to be?

I acctually wondered that to. I think they are about 16-19 years old.

I just have to say that I LOOOOVE this movie. Saw it in class, and I started crying. Unbelivable.

I wouldn't say they are "quite old". When the film was released, Anna Maria Mühe was 17 and Karoline Herfurth was 18, which probably means they were about 16 and 17 while shooting it.

I don't know, but I thought the characters were meant to be about 15 or maybe 16.

Anna Maria Mühe was definitely underage at the time the film was shot, because they used a stand-in for the explicit scenes.

They're 16. They're in the same class as Yvonne & on the news when she dies it says Yvonne was 16

Wrong.
This movie premiered in 2002. Anna Maria Mühe was born in July 1985.
I can do the math for you: at the time of the premier she was 17,
but at the time of the filming she was probably 16.
