Like "Thirteen"?

Is this movie how "Thirteen"?

reply

Well, I've ye to see 'Thirteen', but in the UK much was made of it's controversial portrayl of young teens. Kati and Steffi are slightly older in 'Grosse Madchen', but for schoolgirl teens we still learn the girl's have active sex lives, go out clubbing and one scene involves them taking hard drugs.
It's fair to note though, that wheras 'Thirteen' was primarily about the girls dysfuctional lives, 'Grosse Madchhen' is merley about friendship and incorparates the realities of teen life into the film.

Hey! I personally think that this movie was a lot better than Thirteen. It just seemed to have a lot more to it and was not just going for shock value. Plus, I liked the characters more.

I agree with you.

I would say this movie is better than Thirteen. It doesn't make me cry (I will say Thirteen is an EXCELLENT movie, but I can't watch it without crying my eyes out) at all, but I think I like it because it's a tad less disturbing than Thirteen (I realize there are people like Tracy when they're that age...but it's scary). And like someone said, there's not as much shock factor in this movie.

I love them both, but it's right that "big girls don't cry" don't shock as much. "Thirteen" make you realize how crule the world can be... But as sad I love both, and if anyone know about similar movies, please tell me about them:D

Other than featuring two girls coming of age, the films are substantially different.

THIRTEEN is about a girl entering high school who wants to be liked, and after she becomes friends with a girl who is consummate liar, a troublemaker, and a bad influence, she begins to destroy her own life. In the end, she realizes what a fool she's been and how she almost let the other girl destroy her life.

GROSSE MACHEN is about two girls who already grew up as best friends, and now as they come of age they take different paths to deal with it, one making mistakes then trying to make them right while the other goes on a path of bitter self-destruction. In the end, they realize their friendship gives them the strength that they both needed.

Both are interesting and have good stories and characters, but GROSSE MACHEN is actually a better film. THIRTEEN is a little predictable.

Personally I say that 'Big Girls Don't Cry' is more realisic. Thirteen is a great movie by all means but it does sometimes go for shock value, pure and simple. Because of that the realism and the honesty, especially concerning the characters gets lost soemtimes or at least muddled.

I discovered this movie actually cuz my father brought it home and it was a combo DVD. It was featurin' "thirteen" and "Big girls don't cry".. I enjoyed the last one way better. It's more realistic and totally emotional.

I had a hard time watching this movie. Not because it was bad but because it was so darn good. It was like a gunshot in the gut. I had to stop watching the film when Tessa was going to see the pervert, and then continue the next day becouse it was so disturbing to me. Now that is something 'Thirteen' did not make me do.

I agree, AgentSniff. It's a feeling I experimented too and that "thirteen" didn't give me. "Big Girls Don't Cry" goes from yellow to red, to blue, and then crashes into deep, deep blue. Melancholic as hell, making you unerstand friendship better and well, the movie itself keeps going with a realistic tone all the time.

I just wanna see it again! lol
