Just saw it

I've had this movie for almost two months with Blockbuster.com and finally got around to watching it last night after a busy summer.

A few months ago I was searching for new movies to add to my mail list and somehow I stumbled across Angel Blade. I knew it had to be a B/Direct to DVD type movie but the plot sounded interesting enough for a cheap thrill.

And making it even better to me I saw Amanda Righetti was in it on the cast list. I didn't come here to IMDB to get any backround on it before viewing as I thought it was an obsecure movie no one was going to know anything about. The way they had the cast listed, Amanda is way down on the list and I assumed by that, she was going to have a minor role probably getting killed off quickly.

Not true! She is female lead. To my surprise she is nude I'd say 50% of her time in the movie. I know this was a few years before her limited role on The OC but I was shocked how far she went with the nudity and sex. It kind of reminded me of Blown Away back in the 90's with Cory Haim, Corey Feldman, and Nicole Eggart. I have to wonder now if this film is currently costing Amanda from getting a lot of work these days too or if the Fox shows and pilots she's done are just bad luck for her.

I went into the film not expecting much and I found it better than most unknown direct to DVD movies. The ending sucked. It was really a tacted on "draw your own conclusion" type ending of who may have been killed in the last scene.

In another post here someone mentioned David Heavener being an "egomaniac". It really came off that way in the DVD extras. He is the only bio option listed. Then there is a behind the scenes option of the film. I never usually look at that stuff but this one got to me thinking they may have interviewed Amanda and her take on all the sex. Right off the bat it's a shot of David himself getting make up with him doing the voice over commentary. He says "Hello I'm David Heavener the writer, director, producer, and STAR of Angel Blade...Right here I'm telling the make up lady the type of make up I want to have". At that point I couldn't take anymore of him patting himself on the back and I shut it off.

Take a look at Heavener's IMDB page and see if you recognize ANY of his films there. This guy has been churning out wretched films for some time now and the worst part is he writes, produces, directs and stars in each one. Not only that, he does the music for each. From his IMDB bio:

"Not only a martial artist but also a composer and performer of Christian music."

CHRISTIAN MUSIC?!? Are you kidding me? Does "Angel Blade" seem at all like the work of a person who would identify himself as a Christian? I have no problem with a person being Christian and/or religious, but to make films replete with violence, nudity and sex, as he does, hardly seems pious in my opinion. What church would hold a David Heavener film festival for the family?

This guy somehow also gets well-known actors to appear in his films, though how he does this is a mystery to me. Mr. Heavener must be independently wealthy in order to be able to make films as he does.

You know I can't recall ever seeing a movie of his before but I know he's done a ton by his bio.

And what was really funny, the bio of him on the DVD saying his movies "are usually seen on HBO, Cinemax, and Showtime". Yeah that's because they don't get into theaters nation wide! It should have also said they probably air on these channels between 12-4am.

Since I am running out of ideas for my rental list with Blockbuster.com I tried finding other movies of his for a laugh. To my surprise with all that he's done they only carry about 4 or 5 including a western and a zombie movie! LOL. This guy tries to be all over the place.

Yeah, he doesn't really specialize in a specific genre (unless "garbage" can be considered a genre...)

I saw one other film of his, called "Prime Target." It had Tony Curtis, Isaac Hayes, Robert Reed and, of course, David Heavener. He wrote, produced, directed, wrote and performed the music, pretty much everything. The reason I wanted to see it in the first place was to see Jennilee Harrison. (Yes, I am old enough to remember "Three's Company" on TV) The movie was pretty bad, though I have seen worse. I just don't understand where he gets the funding to make these films.

I love the guy's egomaniacness, I mean Twisted Justice, Writing it, Directing it and starring in it just to have Eric Estrada and everyone else go 'what a guy' at him

Even if you hate Uwe Boll, give Postal a try, be offended or entertained.

You should note that Amanda Righetti is actually a regular on the show 'The Mentalist'... so she has done ok for herself!

My plan was sheer elegance in it's simplicity.

Just seen this rubbish. Never seen a David Heavener film and never will again. The one saving grace of this was Amanda Rigetti who is head and shoulders above the rest of the cast but looks truely uncomfortable with having Heavener drool over her for half of the Movie...

I also loved Marc Singers 'squirmy' performance but not for the right reasons....
