Wow- what a film..exceptionally moving

I have not been so moved by a film in a long long time, perhpas since Brokeback Mt a year back...

The first half was a bit plodding and slow, but by the second half numerous threads that were being developed through come together to make this a really piercing, sad, poetic, melancholic cinematic expereince. the very end is brilliantly done....

And the actors were magnificent...

There are so many layers to the sadness...the sadness of loss - of the seamstress, of a time of hardship and love, and very deeply, of the whole obliteration that very space of the past...the dissapearance of the valley, and additionally the sadness of the distorted cultural revolution...it all culminates in a remarkable and subtle way...

Am so impressed...and have been profoundly moved.

I thought it was a piece of poetry which struck just the right balance between hope and despair. It was very moving and universally accessible.

One got her pregnant. The other helped her out of that jam.

They loved her in different ways.

And Zhou Xun is inexpressibly lovely.

I agree, of course. I don't pretend to be a film buff. I like my toilet humor, but i started watching this on Sundance and finished the whole film. I just had buckets of tears near the end. it was amazing. I'd love to see more movies like this.
