Bud?

Why does everybody say bud a lot?

reply

I think it is something that is part of the Canadian region lexicon of language. People in different areas of the United States and probably Canada use different vocabularies and accents. "Pop" is a good example. I say "soda" or "coke", while Canadians and Midwestern Americans say "pop".

Also, the word "about" is pronounced "ah-boot".

reply

As a Canadian, "ah boot" is not typical. It's one of those things that "every Canadian says!" But it's mostly the western Canadian accents.

Bud, I believe, is a very Atlantic Canadian term. Atlantic Canada is where I'm from and where TPB is filmed. Very common.

reply

It's just an east coast thing, bud.

reply

It's short for 'buddy', a term of endearment, more or less.

We've met before, haven't we?

reply

It means you're serious.

"Listen here BUD, this *beep* isn't going to fly"

reply

It can mean you're serious, like any other term of that sort.
"Listen here sweetheart!"
But not exclusively, considering we hear it many times out of a drunk and aloof Lahey.

We've met before, haven't we?
