When does it take place?

I know it doesn't take place after the other Spider-man cartoon back in 1995, because Spider-man would've known who the Lizard and Kingpin are already, so i think it takes place after the 1st movie. Harrey's dad just died and Harry thinks Spider-mans at fault for it, just like the end of the movie. So does anyone actually know when it takes place?

This piece of guttertrash takes place after the movie... which was an adaptation to the comic.... and the cartoon series an adaptation to the movie....arrrrrrgggggg!!!!!!!!!! What a dissapointment!!

This show sux... MTV ruined it. WB would've done a lot better job (look at X-Men Evolution), heck even Fox could've done it... they did a fine job last time.

Total dissapointment!!!

Its supposed to be set in between the 2 movies, but the last episode screwed it up
big time, i wont spoil it for those who havent seen it, but something really bad happens to Peter and it cant lead into Spidey 2, it just would make no sense. Good show other than that.

I think this new animated Spider-Man show is the best comic book cartoon to come out in a real long time. The animation, except for the incompleted look of some of the backgrounds, is top notch. The characters are very well rendered and animated.

I'm hoping for a second season of at least 22 episodes or so.

dude you need better drugs. This show sucked. It was dawsons creek with costumes. I wanted to see spiderman not dawsons creek. Animation ticked me off. I mean i just wanna watch spiderman in 2d format(x-men evolution type animation or the dc series)

I thought the story lines were horrible too. Max Dillon as a college kid getting beat up? Harry and MJ drinking starbucks every 10 seconds each show?

Also, another reason why this show can't lead up into Spider-Man 2 is because they took Dr. Connors, made him the Lizard, and then killed him off! Funny how Dr. Connors is in Spider-Man 2 still alive and no signs of being the Lizard?

I'm dissapointed to hear that people liked this and didn't like the 90's cartoon. But I guess if you're a fan of crap like Ultimate Spider-Man and not Amazing Spider-Man, then I guess who could blame you for making choices that make me wanna punch myself in the stomach.

And the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles kids show is the best adaption of the comics? From what I've heard, the original Turtle comics had the turtles cussing, getting bloodied up, and drinking beer with their pizza. That must be one hell of a show.

The show takes place after the first Spider-Man movie, but the next 2 have nothing to do with it.

Here is all the boozing I remember from the TMNT:

issue 3, one of the turtles at the end says to April "got a beer" or something like that, after she asks them if they want anything to drink. They are all alseep when she comes back with it.

issue 5 or 6, one of them goes up to the bar (when they are on the Triceraton or Federat homeworlds, i forget which) and asks the bartender for a beer. He drinks it and makes a funny face and says asterik ampersand or something similar.

issue 7 short, in a full color fold out done by Kevin Eastman and Richard Corben one of the guys (they are rarley identified eh?) has some medeviel sword wielding babes in armored bras and panties (guess they aren't worried about disembowlment?) adventure that turns out just to be a dream he had falling over drunk in the sewer on the way home.

Those are the only times they had any brew I can remember. Maybe issue 8 when they are in a some kind of a pub with Cerebres.

The Turtles, by the way, NEVER ate pizza in the original comics, EXCEPT one issue (44) done by one of the many guest artists who completely threw continuity to the wind. In issue 45 one of them (apparantly mocking that issue) asks "got a taco?" (or maybe it was burrito) and they all look at him puzzled.

They really never cursed that much, they just didn't say "what the blazes" and "blast it!" and "great scott (or guns)!" and "what in the name of heaven!" and all of those other exclamations nobody EVER (except as a joke I suppose) uses in real life.

Though the comics were violent (disembowlment in issue 6, eye gouging in a few issues) outside of issue 1 they really weren't that bloody.

I agree, the current cartoon is a fine adaption. The whole ninjas following bushido thing makes me cringe though. That was not in the comics. I could understand Splinter developing a unique philosophy that would borrow from Bushido and still keep their ninja free thinking, but something like that was never mentioned. Issue 1 did make the mistake of offering sepukku (or whatever) to a ninja (by a ninja no less). As far as I know sepukku is an honorable suicide and is only granted to the samurai.

The snow is beautiful... Clean, uncompromising and cold. Like the swift hand of vengence.

I did like this Spider-Man cartoon...if I had to bitch about something, it would be the villains in this could have been done better...I mean throw in some of the big guys.

"You mean they would have done a better job like their "The Batman" series, which completely disregards the comic and the excellent old Batman: The Animated Series?

Face it, if you don't like it, it probably doesn't have anything to do with the fact, that MTV made it."

The new, "The Batman"...which sucks, isn't ment to have anything to do with the two old Batman cartoon, that is what the JLU cartoon is for.

"it has a few references to the film but i would say it is its own story, not really a spin off, like the batman animated series was inspired by the look and story of burtons films it wasn't really a direct follow up, just used some of the ideas. my real only real problem with the show would be the clothes, would it have killed the animators to put the leads in different outfits now and again, instead they wore the same things for all 13 episodes."

I wouldn't say that the look and story for the old Batman cartoon as inspired by the burton stuff...beside the look of a few things, and the penguin's look; they really don't have anything to do with the movies. Which is why the cartoon is better then the Burton movies.

this show is what they call an "offworld" in comic land. it has the same characters, but you can comPLETELY change the canon of Spiderman. it doesn't really "happen" at anytime.

reply

the 1994-1998's show was the best adaptation of Spider-man. The 1999's show sucked, and that MTV's Spider-man suck too

If you look at the characters and their costume designs, You can tell that this is actually the Ultimate Marvel universe. You can easily compare it to how everybody looks in the recently released Ultimate Spider-Man game.

reply

Its written by Bendis but its not Ultimate. Its set after the first film but theres not a lot of focus on continuity because its a new thread, a new line, there are new lines of comic book heros all the time. I for one love amazing spider-man, spectacular, peter parker spider-man, tangled web of spider-man, ultimate spider-man and the films, i think the only incarnation of the hero ive not read an issue of is Mary jane loves peter parker. i can watch this and see it as a new thread and i like what theyve done. and this is obviously made for older people as we see harry drinking martinis alot and theres a lot more plausability to what goes on. if u watch the older cartoons adults act like idiots, the animation was poor and there were hundreds of plot holes and bad incarnations of villains (they did venom soooo bad) you dont see a lot of reality in them and madame web? WTF?!?!? as a fan of the comics i didnt like the old series when i got past a certain age but this is a well done interpretation of spidey.

come on guys continuity isnt an issue.. look at Batman Begins.. it completely negates Burtons Batman but both films are still enjoyable in their own right and i cant wait for the sequel in which i'm sure we'll see a new joker!

yeh and i think the reason they didnt have loads of the major bad guys is cos they were holding them back obviously planning to continue the series, they didnt want to use everyone up.. i want another series now!

Ultimate Spider-Man is really good, haven't read the Amazing comics and don't care to either. Unless they start from the beginning.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Uhh... They do start at the beginning. It's called Amazing Spider-Man #1 (or even Amazing Fantasy #15 if you want to get specific). Did you think Amazing just kinda started at 397 or somesuch?

Unfortunately, the only economcial way to read up on old Spidey comics is in the black and white "ESSENTIALS" collections.

they are on CDROM and DVD. like 40 dollar american I believe. And this isn't a bad show, and it wasn't made by MTV. It was done by Sony and Mainframe. It sort of seems that Raimi is too into himself and the story he wants to tell, that he probably didn't consider wanting continuity with the show. I mean the lizard was very throwaway in the second movie. The show could've been the ultimate medium for getting specifics out of the way like the secret wars.

reply

The real continuity problems were Max Dillon being Electro one ep, then being normal the next. Peter dating the Asian chick one ep, then meeting her the next.

I'm the best there is at what I do, and that ain't pretty.

reply

It doesn't. At all. It can't fit in with the Sam Raimi movies.

It's a reimagining of the comics from the college years, which also featured Gwen Stacy as Peter's interest while MJ dated Harry. They often visited the coffee bean together, but MJ didnt attend ESU like the others did. The college years ended around the time Norman Osborn killed Gwen Stacy and Peter fought Norman to the death.

In the beginning of this series it says Spider-Man killed Norman Osborn 1 year ago So you can imagine it taking place after the 1st Sam Raimi film and before the 2nd but only in a very loose sense.
