what is its legacy?

Being a huge Spider-Man fan and expert in most things Spidey related, I look at this series and wonder what its legacy is. What will it be remembered for?
anything more than a failed attempt at inter splicing the Spider-Man 1 & 2 movies?

Ya you could say it was the first fully CGI Spider-Man series and the only version of Spider-Man voiced by such and such actors but..that's not saying much.

I can't help think that this was a missed opportunity at a more adult oriented Spider-Man aside from the comics. Which is kinda of a rare thing now a days, at least on screen. Say what you will about the comics but the tv shows and movies have been pretty biased towards Peter's adolescent years. For me it was nice to see this show gradually moving him into adulthood where the idea of "Power and Responsibility" goes to a whole new level.

I cant help wonder what the show would have been like if they gave Brian Michael Bendis full reign to use characters and plot lines instead of reserving them for movies and comics thus crippling his ideas for the show.

So the legacy is just that it was doomed by the powers that be; destined for failure. Even if the show had picked up higher ratings there was only so much Bendis and the other writers could do with management holding them back.

It's super disappointing because for me the early 2000s was a really exciting time for Spider-Man; with the 1st Sam Raimi movie doing so well. Seemed like they were actually moving Peter Parker in a direction I was interested in: young adulthood. Which ya they covered that pretty well in comics but, denied us a movie or tv version.

The whole pre marriage romance with Mary Jane could have been expanded upon much better than was in the comics. Such a shame this show even existed because it doesn't seem to fit anywhere in the fandom.
