I don't think this will be released any time soon. That's a shame because I would love to see this series again.

Unfortunately no, it's released by NRK as a Norwegian Region 2 DVD that will only play on Region 2 DVD players, or a region free if you have one. Here's a look at the DVD cover.

It's the original audio, Norway doesn't dub movies, only subtitle them! ;)

I can confirm (with the DVD cover in front of me right now), that the original english audio is present in this release, with optional norwegian subtitles aswell. Very good video (the series is spread over two DVD9 discs) and audio quality (digital mono 1.0). Can be purchased from most norwegian online DVD shops ...

Fianally got my dvd copy today. I can't wait to see it again. This series is what got me into horror, and to this day nothing has scared me as much as this. I'm from Norway and they sell the dvd everywhere here. It has the origanal english audio with optional norwegian subtitles.

If you live abroad it is still pretty easy to order this from Norway.

Video / DVD

For a long time my copy of Maelstrom was taken from Michael Bird's own video recording made when the series was broadcast by the BBC back in 1985.

In 2005 I obtained a perfect digital recording on a "region free" DVD made for me when the series was screened in Finland.

Finally in March 2007 came news that it had been released commercially in Scandinavia. One of my contacts there tells me that it is a co-release by Buena Vista Norway and the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK). It has Norwegian menus, English language audio and Norwegian subtitles. It comes on two discs with three episodes on each disc. My contact mentions a number of suppliers

Typical price is NOK 149 (about £12) but it is not clear if folk outside Scandinavia can order from these stores. If not, my contact has kindly offered to assist anyone who wants a copy.

Anyone know where I can go to get a DVD of this. I have a video cassette recording of it but the first episode and the last episode weren't recorded. It'd be nice to finally see the conclusion to the miniseries. I've searched for years for a Video or DVD release of it. Anyone know more? I'd like the English version, if possible.

If it's any help, I found a version with Dutch subs in the store chain known as 'Blokker' in the Netherlands for a mere 7 EUR.
