The Plot: Based on 'The Tribe'

I love JMS work, Babylon 5 most of all but was disappointed to see this show with a plot so similar to a New Zealand show that was started 3 years earlier.

It was similar, but Jeremiah was based on a comic book.

I really liked the tribe, but it doesn't compare, AT ALL. Jeremiah was much more professionally done. it was geared towards a more adult audience and the actors were much better. I really did like the Tribe, but Jeremiah seamed to do it right.

Go back and watch STAR TREK:T.O.S., and catch the episode entitled 'MIRI', it's the same story line, with the exception that the children who reached puberty (after aging slowly, the purpose of the virus) were affected by the virus.

Dang, you're right!

I love both “The Tribe” and “Jeremiah”.

The fear of loosing ones parents and having to face the world alone has been around for thousands of years. Many books and movies have been around dealing with children having to make a new society without adults. Think of William Golding’s 1954 “Lord of the Flies“.

It’s not been till modern times that the concept of a virus killing off all the adults been thrown into the mix. And I’m sure “The Tribe” (1999) and "Jeremiah" (2002) will not be the last to explore this concept.

I love the Tribe and have done since it started.
I have recently started watching Jeremiah... I think both shows are fantastic.
Yes both of them are about a virus that killed off the adults but I think they are two very different shows.

It isn't really based on The Tribe at all, when I was a kid I watched The Odyssey on Canadian television, a boy wakes up in a world without adults. Then I have known about Jeremiah forever but only found out about The Tribe last year, I watched all 260 episodes of The Tribe and I am a big fan, and just started the first episode of Jeremiah right now and if you have watched all of The Tribe you could watch this if you want as a sequel almost, just based in the same world 10 or so years later following a new character. They even have a casino scene in this episode where he trades in something to get chips to gamble, the casino was a reoccurring set many times in The Tribe. But also yes that Star Trek episode has been around forever as have many movies and shows way before The Tribe and Jeremiah, your conclusion this is based off The Tribe is wrong since it is based off of a comic book from 1979.

It's not based on The Tribe, pf course (which is a cool - if a bit "soapy" kids series) but is based on exactly the same concept... except The Tribe is basically Jeremiah: The Missing Years; that is, the stuff we see very rarely, of the kids' initial survival AS KIDS in a world where all the adults have died. Jeremiah is all but a sequel to The Tribe in concept, a more "adult" look where the protagonists are also now adults.

And now the Brits have the Sparticle Mystery except there's no virus.

Oh because the Star Trek Episode Miri didn't come before the Tribe. Oh and the book The Girl Who Owned a City" by O.T. Nelson

reply

Actually, it's more like The Tribe was based on a comic series that inspired Jeremiah.
