Why need the original GTA to play it?

What was the whole point in that? It has less to do with GTA 1 than GTA 2 did, what kind of idiot thought it woulds be a good idea to program GTA London to not work if you don't have GTA 1. It would be like is FFX2 didn't work if you don't have FFX or even having it that to play FFVIII you need FFVII and to play IX you need both VII and VIII. Heck why not even have it to play any final fantasy you need the original one on NES and then join it to the PSX by cable. I can understadnd with the ad ons in MGS needing the original but whoever decided that this was an ad on and not it's own game is an idiot.

It's called an expansion pack

But it has nothing to do with GTA1, well no more than any sequil had to do with it's origional. It should be it's own game. GTA1 had 6 levels, this has 4 and a completely different setting

Yeah, I think this game could've gotten away with being released as a stand alone entity. Seems to me that "GTA: London 1969" is an earlier incarnation of games such as "GTA: Liberty City Stories" and "GTA: Vice City Stories", in the way in which they were priced into market as budget titles.
Well, all I can say is that I'm guessing DMA design/Rockstar games were still new to the game publishing process, and simply went with the tradition of needing a original disc to run this expansion pack (that was why I stayed away from the "GTA: "(Liberty) (Vice) City Stories" games initially, thinking they were just expansions), similar to "The Sims" franchise and others of that ilk. In retrospect, it seems unnecessary, especially since "Grand Theft Auto" and "GTA: London 1969" exist in different game universes.
