Despite popular opinion, I really loved this movie

OK, so I didn't read the books. I am too old to have ever heard of these books. But I can see why the books have been popular, they dare to discuss love and mention the name of God without being preachy.

I just saw the movie online and although the girl is "supposed" to be wear glasses, it didn't bother me of course because I do not have any preconceptions of the story.

It does seems as if there might be a lot that is missing from the movie, even from MY point of view. But that is to be expected from movies and especially TV MOVIES which never seem to satisfy as much as we would like.

I could see this being expanded out to 4 hours easily. Too bad it did not receive the MOVIE treatment it deserves but I AM HAPPY with this sample.

I recommend it to anyone who does not read story books. Forgive me, because I am stuck in the real world of non-fiction :)

I'm actually old enough to have probably read the first book not long after it came out in 1962. It might even be this that started my life-long love of Fantasy and Sci-Fi. I was really prepared to hate this, given all the negative reviews and comments here. But if it did nothing more than encourage 1% of its viewers to read the book and fall in love with it, it would have served a great purpose. Ignoring the book for a moment, it's a credible and worthy effort on its own. And, after all, how many movies can actually stack up to the original book?

Good post, Jim! Glad you liked the movie. After all, a movie will never be a book, so we need to take each on its own terms or limitations (as it were.)
