Most Disturbing Movie Ever?

i think this is, i saw irreversible, ichi the killer, i stand alone, three extremes, oldboy, sympathy for mr vengance/lady vengance, last house on the left, i spit on your grave, pink flamingos, a clockwork orange, eraserhead, mulholland dr., battle royale, basketball diaries, etc. (and im not even 18 yet, but thats not the point) anyway, i thought that this movie was way more disturbing than anything else i ever saw. does anyone agree with me?

reply

I've seen all the above too (and worse movies believe me!) but I don't think Visitor Q was disturbing. I guess it depends on what "cringes" you out more kinda thing. I hate Oldboy and mr vengeance and lady vengeance I fell asleep. Dumplings made me cringe coz I hate anything to do with childbirth (and i'm a girl!!). Also Naked Blood is just wrong. You gotta check it out. Not sure if it's allowed to be released here yet though I imported it from Japan. I havn't really seen a film that's disturbed me though. 'Cannibal Holocaust' i thought was pretty rough and 'I spit on your grave'.

The Warriors soldier #16 heavy muscle

Doin' what? Messy-up your day?

Salò o le 120 giornatta di sodoma that was disturbing, not Bijita Q

I stole your comment?what?

reply

He meant that he agreed with your comment, saying "Salò o le 120 giornatta di sodoma that was disturbing, not Bijita Q" to the extent that he could've written it himself ;)

This is one of the weirder films I've seen, but I wouldn't say that it was THAT disturbing, not that I've seen anything worse. Not having seen salo yet, though. It's been lying in my collection for a while now, collecting dust because I haven't had the guts to see it yet :D

reply

Don't watch Salo. Salo is *beep* It's not disturbing and is just a waste of life sitting through it.
I *beep* hate that movie >.<

reply

I totally agree, waste of time.

reply

The content is disturbing, but the movie is *beep* Totally agree.

reply

Complete and utter crap nad not disturbing at all. I don't even see how fiction can be "disturbing" at all. Some news reports are disturbing to me, what those Russian kids uploaded was extremely disturbing, this was just trying way too hard and ultimately plain boring. What a waste of time.

reply

When you say *beep* do you mean its just boring or it actually a disturbing watch. I just watched this film now and have to say I thought it was reasonably light hearted. Obviously if you were explaining some of the scenes to someone who hasn't seen the film then they would think you a bit of a sicko for calling it light hearted or funny, but the way it was done was a bit cartoonish and not sadistic in the slightest. Maybe I'm only feeling like this becaise we watched that guy Haneke's "Cache/Hidden" just before we stuck this on. For the whole of Cache I was on the edge of my seat, my heart beating way too fast, and absolutley nothing happens in the whole movie (maybe one or two bits, but nothing remotely like the carry on seen here) I used to activley search out supposed "disturbing" films when I was younger, stupid horror stuff like last house on the left etc.. and was never really bothered by any of it. Then one day I happened to catch the fire extinguisher scene in Irreversible and ever since when I hear a film is pretty bad I'm a bit wary of sticking it on. Thats why I'm not watching that Salo thing, from reading a couple of these boards it seems to be the one to beat!

yeaaaaa salo was an abysmal film. 1/2 the movie was a bunch of old dudes talking, the other half was a scat fetish film. terribad.

reply

The War Zone 1999 is the most disturbing movie i've seen, and i've seen most ones mentioned

reply

Oh yeah! I kind of forgot I had seen "The War Zone"...I had it on my list of things to see, then realized I had already seen it :-P It was really beautifully disturbing though!
I think that "Irreversible" has probably disturbed me the most, so far...I love that movie though, and I love that it's able to effect me that way.

reply

Salo a waste of time? Surely that's not the reason why it was banned in some countries.

Maybe you did not understand it. Salo is a profound statement about the relations between bourgoisie, facism and the working class.

reply

I don't know how much you know about the film (all the symbolism and what Pasolini was trying to achieve), but I can't believe anyone could dismiss it as just being "beep" if they did. Very important film.

These bastards!

reply

In the movie world it seems to be known as one of the most disturbing movies ever. In my world, it is known as one of the biggest bores ever. It was total crap...

reply

You hate Oldboy? really?

reply

Yeah, Cannibal Holocaust and I Spit on Your Grave were pretty disturbing. This movie wasn't so bad. In a way, it was a bit boring. But wasn't bad at all. Just very twisted.

Me and my girlfriend found it quite funny actually.

reply

I thought it was funny as hell

One of my firends ran out of the room when they shoved the mike up the guys ass.

reply

I thought this movie was funny

At least you'll never be a vegetable - even artichokes have hearts!

reply

I'd say that I found this movie more odd than disturbing, but yes I can understand why some people may find it so.

Despite having seen nearly all the movies on your list I have to addmit that the film that has disturbed me most is 1970's British children's animation "Watership Down" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078480/).

Maybe you have to be English and of a certain age but I find it hard to believe that this got a "universal" certificate. I mean that creepy creation myth opening sequence, the black rabbit (still sends a shiver down my spine, maybe like a lot of kids this was perhaps the first time I ever encountered any sort of personification of the very real concept of death), the onscreen violence, blood and death, the "Bright Eyes" sequence, that upbeat yet still heartbreaking final scene...

I adore Watership Down, it's one of my favourite movies ever.

"I think you're a load of old crap too, Mr Mulligan."

reply

AMEN to that!!!

reply

I agree completely.
Watership Down *is* a scary movie

reply

:-) Glad I'm not the only one to think it, steven-594

Just read through my original (21 month old!) posting and realized there was another reason that it's suprising Watership Down got a "Universal" certificate:

"One use of moderate strong language (by a seagull)"

"I think you're a load of old crap too, Mr Mulligan."

reply

Well, there is one movie that comes to mind that is more disturbing than all of those put together: Kichiku Dai Enkai.

For me it has to be August Underground's Mordem. That film was messed up. I dare you to watch AU then Mordem then Penance back to back.
Also, I thought Niku Daruma aka Pyscho: The Snuff Reels aka Tumbling Doll of Flesh was twisted. First half - porn. Second half - faux snuff, with some shocking abuse of stomach wounds. Has to be seen to be believed.

Uh... what.. this wasn't disturbing at all. It was a comedy, for christ's sakes.

Also... some of the films you mentioned aren't disturbing at all... how the *beep* is mulholland drive or battle royale disturbing? "OH NO! SOMEONE LOOKING FOR THEIR IDENTITY!! DISTURBING!!!" or "BAD KIDS ON AN ISLAND SHOOTING EACH OTHER! I'M SHOCKED!"

As far as what I find disturbing, I do find the end of Tetsuo II, with the sex/gunshot in the head and subsequent face being destroyed by bullets disturbing.

reply

Adding to your list - AMerican history X, and crash, also haute tension.

reply

american psycho has some odd behavior that might be a bit disturbing to women.. also the woodsman is kind of disturbing.

reply

haute tension was a retarded p.o.s. excuse for a film.
