Well, this Hitler had yet to take many strides down his dark path, and I found myself feeling no small amount of sympathy for the odd little man.
I really did want things to work out for him, and there is something slightly heartbreaking about the scenes of him waiting in the restaurant near the film's end, messing about with his hair and becoming increasingly agitated as his big chance to make it as an artist slips by.
If the "real" Hitler were anything like the sad sack that is portrayed in the movie, then yes it would be OK to like him. The real Hitler was pure evil from a very early age though, and his psychopath tendencies were well established by the time he got out of the army.
