Need recommendations for films like this?!

Check out the movie Whatever, which takes place in 1981 New Jersey and features the story of two female friends who endure real life problems and come out the other side. Having lived through high school in the early 1980s, I find that not only does this movie ring painfully true, but that it also features writing of the same quality as Blue Car.

I also suggest the movie version of the teen novel Speak, about a girl who has been date raped and must learn to come to terms with this traumatic experience. She is rendered pretty much unable to speak but finds her voice through art. Although this movie has its flaws, my class of high school students - the girls, anyway - loved this movie, which they saw after reading the book, which was even better.

One of my all-time favorite movies is Ghost World, which features a teenaged female protagonist. It's very intense and unforgettable.

Ghost World was a good memorable film. I also can't forget Man in the Moon, an early Reese Witherspoon movie. The acting and lessons learned are very compelling. I recommend both.
