That's why I thought he was evil. He was too nice to the hero. Spy movies tend to have twists about a good person being evil. Movies where a clumsy rookie has to save the perfect veteran tend to have twists about that veteran being evil (and the rookie has to defeat him/her, thereby completing his/her training).
