Was the "cowboy" not really a cowboy?

At the end of the movie he's wearing a suit and attending opera, not typical "cowboy" things. So he just pretended to be a cowboy? It seems like since he was really a good guy, then he couldn't be a texan, since the movie tends to stereotype Texans as stupid rednecks.

I know this is a 3 year old reply, so it's not necessarily for you, but for anyone else that reads this after:

He was a thorough Texan, wearing cowboy hats and flannel could just be "who he is" but he could also have other likes, such as the opera (as evidenced with him listening to opera in his house before he left to meet at the gas station)

He had to leave quickly afterward, and his hat was his signature "style" so would make him stand out. Also, he was still in Spain when he went to the opera, perhaps contemplating on the deeds he did, losing a friend in the pursuit of twisted justice.

Rarely are people one-dimensional.
