Who is Kate's Sister?

Kate answers the telephone at home, and hears from her sister that someone with a photo of her has been trying to meet her. Who is this sister, and how did she hear about the photo? Is it Ellen, the waitress at the diner to whom Harry first shows the picture? Is it little Quinn's Aunt Gayle - the aunt to whose house Lieutenant Pete sends Kate and Quinn when he has to go back to the station for a few hours? Or is it someone else entirely?

Thanks in advance.

I think it was Quinn's Aunt Gayle.

Hmmm... I originally thought that as well, but I watched the diner scene again in which Harry first shows her the photo, and she seem to have no spark of recognition at whatsoever. If you ever watch this movie again, I'd love to hear whether you're opinion changes after re-watching that scene. Thanks for the input, John!

I will see it again very soon now that I'm more intrigued.

I'll let you know after my second viewing of the film.

I'm in the process of watching the film again (I keep getting interrupted, so it will take a few days), and I wish to recind my original theory of Aunt Gayle being Kate's sister. It must be the waitress only because no other character is introduced in the story between the scene at the restaurant, and the living room scene where Kate confronts Peter on his last trip...

Thanks for the input, John. But I'm a little unclear as to your new theory. Who do you think it was on the phone talking to Kate? I'm dying to get this issue resolved because I have a bet with my friend! :-)

it WAS the waitress

I don't think so. We don't know. But the odds of him asking around about this picture and the first person he asks happens to be her sister are pretty slim.

Plus her reaction is nothing like I would expect. She is a dumb waitress, she would have said "oh my god, that is my sister!" She had no idea who what woman was.

I have only seen it once but I really don't think it was the waitress. Maybe the other cop told her sister or something.

Plus, did he ever tell the waitress his name? I don't think he did.
