Maine's Freaky Behaviour

I watched the movie and I was sitting there, thinking...what is with Maine's behaviour, she was acting like a child and what is with that horse obession??

Yeah I don't know what the horse obsession was about, but she was acting childish. I liked the movie though.

A word to the wise ain't necessary - it's the stupid ones that need the advice.

The horse obsession is a copy of a short story where a boy rode a toy rocking horse b/c it told him who would win the horse races in his town so he could give his mother the winnings to make her happy, I think it's called The Rocking Horse Winner, but I could be wrong. I read it a few weeks as an assignment for my Lit. class, so when I saw the movie it made sense why she was doing it.

Rocking Horse Winner is a short story by DH Lawrence. This subplot becomes predictable as the protagonist, a small boy, is able to pick winners of horse races by riding the rocking horse, but a piece of his soul dies. When he wins big time, the boy dies.

Just like this movie, when the winning numbers are picked, one of the protagonists dies.

As an aside, she later gives up her obsession with the horse but later takes up an interest in a new DH Lawrence book: Lady Chatterly's Lover.

Maine was a child played by a child. How did you want her act as an 80 year old women.

She WAS a child.
