I used to think the butterfly effect in this movie was exaggerated

I used to think the butterfly effect in this movie was exaggerated, e.g. going from prostitute to sorority girl. But after having a string of bad luck myself, where one decision lead to another in a downward spiral, I now realize how small events can throw your life in a completely different direction.

What gives me some consolation is that it is just (bad) luck. We don't have free will in a contra-causal sense. Regardless, the only thing we can do after the fact is to make the best of the situation and try to learn from our mistakes.
