When I bought this I thought it would actually be an enjoyable watch. I was totally wrong. Many of the "factoids" are incorrect! For example, Michael Myers was NOT born on Halloween. That one was glaring, but there are many more. Also, the films are limited to what rights the "makers" could get their hands on. Sequels are not good in place of originals. There are also obscure horror characters what few have heard of - how are these the best of the best?
I wasnt expecting too much out of this. There wasnt even any Night of the living dead, Creepshow, Evil Dead, They missed a ton of classics. It was too short also, it wouldve been cool if they inviewed the film makers and have some behind the scenes stuff to make it more of a documentary, but no, its all just useless footage, that i already own most of. Same with that fights dvd they released later (it was cool they had John Woo tho!).
actually, he was. I know in resurrection the guy says oct. 19, but the rest of that speech was wrong (the body count) so his word cannot be taken. Also, in H1 (TV CUT) the doctors decide that Michael Myers should be sent to court on his 21st birthday; now, they were transfering him on oct.30 night, so that the next day (Halloween) it would be his birthday and he would appear in court.
Maybe you spent too much? My mom bought this for $2.88 CDN at Wal-Mart, and gave it to me. I think it was a hell of a deal, and I am a huge horror fan (over 200 titles in my horror library)
When you think of Night Of The Living Dead, no main villain comes to mind because there is none. It doesn't make it less of a movie, just not what this compilation calls for. You think of A Nightmare On Elm Street, you think of Freddy Kruegar......see the connection......
I was a little disappointed, while expecting to see Jason,Freddy,Chucky and some of the other more familiar characters, I was also expecting them to have have some of the less known ones-like belial from basketcase, for example.
If we're all bitchin here, I'll just say, that I can't find the movie "The Guardian" that was in the list ... I've gone the actors mentioned in the extras menu on IMDB, I might be wrong ... but perhaps this movie is so unknown that it doesn't even warrant a IMDB page?, or am I just looking in the wrong place ... someone help me out, I would really greatful
I actually had no trouble finding The Guardian, and because of the clip about The Ugly, I rented it on NetFlix. Furthermore, Robert Englund himself is said to be a huge fan of The Ugly.
Anyway, I do agree, some of the information isn't correct. There was no mention of Freddy molesting children in the original, and he certainly didn't seem to 'come on' to any of the characters in the original NoES. However, in almost all of the sequels there is some reference to Freddy having molested children. Sequels, for the most part, suck. And I do agree that they should have had movies like Evil Dead in the movie, but who would they pick as the "boogeyman"? The giant fat ghoul in the second movie, or the Evil Ash in AoD? I also wish they would have showed more clips from the original movies (such as the original Ft13th, why nothing about Mrs. Vorhees who started it all?) Also, why did they show the ending of some classics like Psycho and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre?
My biggest complaint, however, is that it's called Volume 1 (it says so on the spine of the DVD case) but there has been no edition to the series. Damn money making whores who don't follow through on promises.

I agree 100% on that fact. When I first saw the commercial for this years and years ago, I thought that this was going to be a great DVD. I remember it saying on the commercial "Over 150 hours of great movies" or something to that effect. So I was hyped to buy it right before Halloween. Me and my (at the time) boy toy, were going to have a sit down in my apartment with no light or anything and scare the crap out of each other with this DVD. Popped it in, sat down with popcorn and an alcoholic beverage in hand ready to be freaked out, only to be pissed off by the clip actions and not the whole movie. We were so mad that we just got drunk and went to sleep. Every time I look at my collection of DVD and see the Boogeymen: The Killer Compilation I get mad.
"Marge.. I just realized..I am the "owww"..in the word.."nowww".. reply share
Agreed because of this compilation I also bought The Ugly and enjoyed it very much. The guardian I remember seeing when I was a little kid and it was really creepy. I think it was a pretty cool mix, I was honestly hoping for sequels to this set.
I would have liked to see Susperia, Zombi 2, Night of the Living Dead, Evil Dead, City of the Living Dead etc... Horror fans especially zombie should check out the older Italian and Euro horror flicks. Heck that's George Romero's style, very gorey and graffic.
Although I know that this DVD isn't obviously as good as it could have been (especially if one were to come out now, since some very good horror films have been made since), I feel I must jump in here for a little defense.
First of all, let me just say that the "Vol. 1" means that it's Volume 1 of the FlixMix compilation DVD's, NOT Volume 1 of BOOGEYMEN: The Killer Compilation... If you know of the 2nd FlixMix DVD Ultimate Fights from the Movies, then you'll know that the DVD has "Vol. 2" on it.
1: Some people on here were expecting to see some great horror films such as Evil Dead, Night of the Living Dead, etc., but felt that they were screwed over. One thing that needs to be known is that this DVD was intended to be a compilation of characters from horror films that were meant to be villainous, iconic legends from the horror genre, not random characters from films that had no true legendary killer in them. [See Xavier Valdruid's post.]
Although I LOVE the Evil Dead films, there were never any legendary, iconic killer from the films (besides maybe Evil Ash), but even he was never REALLY an iconic killer from the horror genre. Now, I know that some examples used in the DVD, such as Simon (from The Ugly), Camilla (from The Guardian), The Dentist, etc. were kinda bad examples that they DID have, you can't really blame them all that much, especially considering they had pretty much everyone else that truly matters anyhow.
I personally would've rather seen Pennywise (from Stephen King's IT), possibly Evil Ash, and more killers that don't have as much of a legendary status to some of the ones on the DVD, but what the makers chose instead gave us a great opportunity to get to know some unknown killers from semi-unknown films, as well as the obvious choices.
2: Although, in the original A Nightmare on Elm Street, they didn't mention (literally) that Freddy Krueger was a molester, it can be pretty much assumed... even at least a little. In the first film, an example could be when Freddy causes the mouthpiece on Nancy's phone to be his mouth and tongue, trying to lick her face... and even though Nancy's character isn't a little girl, you can almost tell that him being a molester COULD be possible, I guess.
Freddy has ALWAYS had a very sexual side to him in regards to the females he has killed, and even at times when he was using a different form, such as the nurse in Dream Warriors.) The sequels, especially Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, obviously have him being a molester a known fact. Now, sure, you can't always go by what sequels tell you, but considering this series, I think any of the sequels are OK to take facts from.
3: The body counts list at the end of the DVD ARE, in fact, wrong in (at least) some cases... THAT I DID notice right away! Jason, for example, killed (I'm pretty sure) actually a little less than the number they say by the time this DVD came out.
4: Did anyone besides me notice that the very last film's credits list in the credits sequence was of a movie that wasn't even present in the DVD (called Jack Frost 2)??? Now THAT was perhaps this DVD's BIGGEST mistake, LOL!
Hopefully, I've set a few things straight with this post. All I'm trying to do is help out, so please don't think anything harsh of me.
Woo, this is an old post! I don't know who is going to read this, but I wanted to comment anyway :)
This is to Mike Sorge: 1) I didn't know there was a "FlixMix" compilation series. Thanks for setting me straight.
2)I agree, Pennywise would have been a fantastic addition. I was reading a thread on an opinion website (SodaHead) about the creepiest fictional characters, and a ton of people put Pennywise on the list. They really should have put him on the compilation instead of someone like Camilla.
3) I guess you can make the argument that it was *inferred* that he was a child molester, but in the original they just said he was a "child murderer". I guess I'm just a stickler for the little details. I never really saw him as having a sexual side until the sequels came out. I always thought that licking Nancy's face was just a way to disgust her and make her question her sanity. With Tina's shirt being ripped open as she was being killed, I just thought that it was a way to get some skin in the movie and to really show the slashes he cut into her torso. But I guess there really is no argument on my side, because the sequels are considered canon by fans. It just miffed me a bit, although looking back on it now, I don't know why lol.
4) The body counts annoyed me too. I went back and watched the Halloween and Friday the 13th series again and actually kept a tally just to check the compilation's accuracy and was disappointed to see that it was off the mark.
5) Actually, Jack Frost 2 is featured as an easter egg. I cannot, for the life of me, remember how to access it but you can view the clip. I'm not sure why it's an easter egg and not featured with the rest of the clips.
Admittedly I'd probably hate it if I'd just seen it for the first time now, but I discovered it when I was a huge noob to the horror genre. It helped introduce to me to the classic characters and really got me pumped to check out these (mostly) classic movies.
---------------------------------- Death is but a door, time is but a window...I will be back.
I can remember receiving this as a Christmas present. I don't know what possessed my mother to buy me this, but she bought it either way. I may have enjoyed it a lot more if I didn't already own nearly all the films in the list.
I can remember thinking that the choices for a few of the titles, namely The Guardian and The Ugly were a bit odd as I had never heard of any of them, Although on saying that it's probably for the best that they were on it otherwise I would have never heard of them at all. Still to this day I have not seen either The Guardian or The Ugly nor do I intend to so them being included was pointless as far as this viewer is concerned.
Also 2001, although it seems a long time ago seeing this DVD seems a lot longer ago than the 2001 date listed here on IMDb I was sure it was released about 1998, clearly not.
In all honesty I always saw this as a little piece of trash, sleaze at its purists. If it was to be rereleased it could do with a BD Live enabled edition with links to be able to rent the film maybe for a discount or a one time free viewing of it, it would be like when the release a film with a ticket to see it's sequel in cinemas, either that or just include all the films on the disc and state that it includes them. I would have no interest in this as I am sick and tired of box sets, I have plans to make sure that when 4K is finally released on a physical format that I buy the films separate and with original theatrical artwork.
There comes a time to put away childhood things. But some things just won't stay put!
