Question for those knowledgeable about the military.

In episode 4 "Acid Tests" when Jessie is getting high with his dealer, his dealer says "You're the only officer to walk point."

I thought you had to have some college to be eligible for officer. But Owen Crawford had said that Jessie had fallen off the earth. How could he have gone to college then?

His dog tags had his name on it so we know he didn't go under an assumed name.

I'm guessing Crawford never bothered to look in the military for him, thinking that Jessie would never have joined. But wouldn't Crawford have checked the enrollment logs in the colleges and universities?

So either I'm wrong about needing college to be an officer, or Crawford didn't check schools while searching for a missing 16yr old?

EDIT: Well, nevermind. While he is in the hospital bed he is visited by a man who tries to award him some medals and calls him Frank Pierce. So apparently he did go to war, and likely college with that fake name. His dogtags however said Jessie Keyes though, so that must be a goof.


An answer on whether you have to have college to be an officer would be nice.
