Smartest soap ever - Begging for an American remake!

Telenovelas are 99% garbage, but this one was a total stand out. It's been a couple of years since I saw it but at the time it was the smartest and most interesting series I'd seen in a long time and if it was adapted properly for American television I guarantee it would be a runaway hit.

First of all, it features prominent displays of Muslim society and the compromises/struggles that exist within it as family members attempt to interpret conservative religious teachings while adapting to Western life. I can't think of any show that even remotely touches a topic so relevant to today's society! Is it accurate? I don't know... but most people know nothing about muslims and this would be a good way to change that.

It's a fascinating backdrop to the the main concept: genetic engineering. The concept sounds silly but the layers of dilemmas that arise (moral, ethical, social, emotional, etc.) when the scientist secretly raises a white clone born of a black mother (throw race and fertility issues in as well) make for some compelling television. Ultimately, Jade's love triangle between the clone, the original, and her Muslim husband raises the question: "Who are we?" Are we our body, our appearance, are we our family, tradition, our parents, our wants?

My description doesn't really do the show justice since it is much more than just this. Yes, it eventually got pretty cheesy at some points (Michael Bolton was in it!) but with such a winner on their hands I'm sure the makers were encouraged to lengthen the story as much as possible with "filler".

I think this would be a bigger hit than Ugly Betty since it has a much wider market. American producers would be crazy to overlook an adaptation. I heard Osama Bin Laden's niece is an aspiring actress in NYC. Can you imagine if she were cast in this? In any event, it would be a controversial but a definite ratings monster. It was already huge in the rest of the world, the English speaking audience is missing out.

I agree too! I loved this series when i watched it more then 5 years ago. The script was smart, themes relevant, music wonderful and the scenery fascinating. I liked the actors as well , they were all good! O Clone was the first Brazilian soap opera and since then I have seen a few more that i have enjoyed very much. Go Brazil!

I loved the show, but i really don't want there to be an american remake.
They have kill so many other good things be trying to americanize it.
It would teach people about the muslim culture but I think they should leave it as it is, the original actors did a phenomenal job and it would very hard to create the same effect with our actors(not that there's anything wrong with them).
