I thought near the end of the sequel to Silence of the Lambs that Hannibal Lechter chopped off his own hand in order to escape, but he's seen at the start of introduction scene back in prison (unsure how he was recaptured) with both hands intact. Any explanations?
shareRed Dragon is the prequel to Silence of the Lambs, so it shows how he was originally arrested and found out by Agent Graham at the very beginning of the movie. At the end of Red Dragon, when Chilton says something about a young woman from the FBI being there to interview Lecter, Lecter asks, "What is her name?", the woman Chilton is referring to is Clarice Starling, hinting that the events of Silence of the Lambs take place next
