I know this is twelve, thirteen years (or more) late for Red Dragon -- but Robin Williams would have made a great younger (or just more "timely") Doctor Lecter. Robin could have easily mastered Hopkins' diction and mannerisms from Lambs, if they wanted him to go at it that way.
I wonder if he was ever actually considered?

I can't stand him in his comedy roles but I've been really impressed when he has a serious and dramatic role, One Hour Photo being a very good example. I don't think he'd be a great Lecter but I think he could be a good one

Yeah, he was considered for Lambs actually. And I think it was a terrible idea because my mind cannot imagine another Lecter (haven't seen Manhunter and the series yet) the same way I don't like watching other Clarice than Jodie Foster...
