There's quite a few differences between the two, but they are basically the same story. The Ring Virus is more closely adapted from the book than Ringu, but does contain some of the aspects of Ringu which aren't in the book.

For example, both films have the main character as a woman, where it is a man in the book. In Ringu, her child is male, in Ring Virus and the book, the child is a girl.

The actual video is different in both films, and the Ring Virus uses a version of Sadako's death which is more similar to the book.

SPOILERS

Ringu shows Sadako being killed by her "father" after she becomes more of a danger. The Ring Virus shows her being killed by her half brother, after he discovers she has both male and female genitalia, after a sexual encounter. The only difference between this scene and the book, is that it is a young doctor who kills her in the book, not her brother.

There are other minor differences - the Ryuji equivalent is a totally different character, and not related to the main character, the girl at the beginning is alone, the flashbacks are different, etc. If you've read and enjoyed the book, you might actually like the Korean version better.
