Anti-Movie Message Thread

Who is against the supposedly planned movie of Return to Castle Wolfenstein?

REASONS

1. Negative attention upon release due to controversial Nazi-related content
2. May not have the same feel as the game.
3. Possibility of desecrating, discrediting and dishonouring the classic value of the game.

All anti-Wolfie movie people, if you claim any of these reasons, keep this message alive!

Come on dude,a RTCW movie would rock! And whats your beef with nazi material? The dirty Dozen, the Indiana Jones movies etc all featured nazis and were very successful movies! And as for your other reasons...give it a chance, it may surprise you!

"How can I contact the production company, if they have confirmed?

I would like to audition for the role of either BJ or Jack.

PS: The movie thought was originally my idea. I wanted to write a script, but I didn't know which game to base it on. "Wolfenstein 3D", its sequel "Spear Of Destiny" or this "Return To Castle Wolfenstein". "

Speccyboy doesnt like nazi material because he's german. And as far as the younger generation German citizens are taught, there was no nazi party and no ww2, from 1939-1945 germany was on a happy picnic with flowers and happy butterflies.

I dont really think that you know a lot about teachings in Germany. Who gave you the idea that "And as far as the younger generation German citizens are taught, there was no nazi party and no ww2, from 1939-1945 germany was on a happy picnic with flowers and happy butterflies."?
Having had a thorough education here in Germany we spent the entire 7th grade history classes at school dealing with the third Reich and its atrocities.

I am not German. I am of Italian descent, and I live in England. I come from a pseudo-military background on my paternal and maternal sides.

My great grandfather was KIA in 1917. (Maternal)
My grandfather was a POW in 1942. (Maternal)
My father was forced into the army, like some of his brothers, from 1978 to 1979. (Paternal)

Although it is ironic that I do play this game, it is entirely for the FPS violence / gore. Several reasons why this game should not be movie adapted:

1. It is a controversial issue, especially in Austria and Germany.
2. If Herr Uwe Boll gets his hands on the rights, Zoroaster knows what it will look like.

3. The movie will desecrate the value of the original game.
4. There are too many - I repeat - TOO MANY - VG2FAs (Video Game 2 Film Adaptations). Surely we can let a few pass for the sake of its gory glory and classic memories.

Its okay if you're Nazi. We can tell for your hate for RTCW.

reply

No way could this be a bad movie. Nazis+zombies=One kickass movie.

Not mention a truely badass hero, completely with the manly stubble.

reply

It would be good if a really great movie is made from this game. And by good I mean a film that will appeal to a wider audience than just the hardcore RTCW fanboys. Judging from the examples set by other video game movie conversions I'm not holding my breath though.

reply

I always thought that RTCW was heavily influenced by the film 'Where Eagles dare' that has Clint Eastwood in it.

Check it out it's an excellent film, and it's clear that RTCW has copied the films setting and style of music.

Except the polka in the pub (in the movie). For some reason, it has haunted me ever since I saw it.

My vote is that they do a movie based on the original castle wolfenstein-- just have this guy wander around a maze of hallways, and occasionally shooting people. The script could just be the hero being spotted, and the nazis yelling "HALT!"

reply

And the ever-present, "Schweinhund!" which was made by the gearing of the floppy drive.

reply

You know, I think even Dr. Boll could pull this off. I mean, all you gotta do is keep the Nazis, and keep the zombies. That's ALL, and you'll pull of a movie so awesome to be of epic proportions. Even HE couldn't screw that up.

I think return to castle wolfenstein would be the best game to base it on, but the storyline would have to be improved. I love the storyline, but most people aren't going to want to watch one person going around shooting germans most of the time. What I mean is there would have to be more speach, so maybe a bigger storyline, a few extra charectors.
